Clowns Eating Eggs

Iv had my black and white occelaris pair for about 3 years and they just recently starting laying eggs awile back. The first clutch they laid they where white and where eaten. Then the next batch was eaten again, and last night they laid a huge clutch biggest yet and then I get up to check on the nest and its gone..Why might they be eating the eggs? I feed them alot of food. Pellets throughout the day, 50/50 plus and roggers food. Im not sure if the clowns are eating them or something else is but I know they are gone normaly after a day.

My BW's I acquired from another breeder finally started laying again and they also have eaten the first couple of batches. They too get fed very well so I just feel they'll eventually settle into the groove and get a good batch going.

Thanks for the reply. Im glad Im not the only one whose fish have been eating thier eggs.(not trying to come off rude or anything).

Clowns may take a few times to "get it right." They will eat infertile or otherise dead eggs. The fact that the batch you saw was "white" tells me they either weren't fertile or were dead due to some other cause. They should be a bright orange when they are initially laid and slowly (over a period of about 8-14 days) they turn darker and finally silver.

hi.... they will get into the swing of things hopefully soon... are you sure they ate them the last time - they may have possibly hatched - day 6 - 9 depending upon water temp etc.... keep feeding them well and variety, don't change the environment (rocks, etc) and they should keep going... you may want to check out the breeding forum for more info... best of luck! =)
