Clowns Hosting Brain

Hello fellow reefers.

My mated pair of Snowflake clowns have decided to host my Brain Coral (or other way around) I thought it was cool at first but now they are starting to kill the brain. I have tried moving it but like I figured, they keep finding it1 :headwally:

Question is should I introduce an anemone or will they just continue to host my brain?

Thanks,

D

Yeah i had the same thing happen with my clowns . After 1 month i introduce a rose bubble tip anemone and it took the 1 week to start hosting the anemone . Good Luck !!!!

Clowns are hosted by anemones (or other corals or even powerheads) rather than the other way around. Unfortunately if clowns associate with many corals, they can injure them (or even kill them) if they are hosted by them.

My clown pair was hosted by a brain coral that I had. They loved the brain to death unfortunately, so I got them a BTA.

Same thing happened to me, I added a LT anemone and then had to cover the brain for a good month before they took to the anemone. They still like to visit the brain on occasion though.

Moved Brain to Fuge for a little alone time :).....

What Anemone will a pair of Snowflake clowns prefer?

I think they are A. Ocellaris..

Thanks,

Dallas

If they are an ocellaris, their natural hosts include H magnifica, and S. gigantea -- two of the most difficult and demanding anemones available.

What size tank, and what lights do you have? What other corals? Might be better off trying an E. quadricolor (( BTA )), not a natural host for them, but many have done it.

Those two get huge! and will eat other fish from what I have heard...

Tanks is a 90 with a 75 Sump. 2 250W MH and 2 96W PC lights. Prams are pretty on as I keep quite a bit of SPS. One thing is that my tank has a lot of flow in it.... Are there any who prefer more flow?

I had a BTA for a while but clowns would not take it so gave it away before it moved on me. I was looking at a Rose BTA again or a Sebae.

Now that they took to the Brain are they more likely to take to an Anemone?
