Clowns not hosting RBTA

Hi there,

My clown pair are hosting a toadstool and ignoring the new addition of the RBTA I got a few months ago.

ANy ideas how to get them to switch? Sump the toadstool for a few days maybe? I have tried moving it around the tank and they just follow lol :lolspin:

Removing the toadstool may or may not help. It's worth a shot though.

Remove the toadstool and see what happens. By the way, the anemone "hosts" the clownfish, not the other way around

Another method some have metioned is placing the coral they are associating with close to the anemone. See if they take to the anemone and it starts hosting the clowns.

What type of clown? My Perculas loved their RBTA when I had a tank full of them. I emptied out the BTAs and replaced it with giganteas and haddoni. Now, I put back 2 RBTAs which are an inch or two next to the gigantea and the clowns don't even look at it.

This is very common especially for the tank raised clowns. The wild caught clown will fall in love with RBTA right away. The tank raised clown is 50-50. My ORA premium snowflake/black clown pair won't even check out the RBTA but scolymia and brain coral. I decided to tank out the RBTA from them. Now, my wild caught percula/picasso pair have 3 RBTA and they won't get out from their nest unless it's feeding time.

Tank raised is 50/50?? Not buying that. Never had any tank raised clowns that weren't hosted, in fact my tank raised A. Polymnus pair were hosted by an S. Haddoni within an hour of being released into the tank.

Some one on here made a good point earlier in the week. It went something like, Just because the clowns were born/raised in captivity doesn't mean that it erased millions of years of genetic instincts.

If they are true percs, I have heard that printing a picture of some being hosted by a BTA will help. Not sure if that is true or not... I am planning on getting a BTA to host my true percs and will see what happens...
