Club DFS/ Salt Order

Reefing On My Mind
Team RC
Ok, there seems to be interest in a Salt Order... I know I can use 5 or so buckets... DFS will obviously be our best option... Reef Crystals is on sale for $31.99 and DFS only charges a max of $17.99 shipping...

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produ...partial&Ntk=All&N=2004&Ntt=reef crystals&Np=1

I am willing to organize this order... I will only order RC salt... If you want another type of salt, hop onto Don's PA order... I will check with DFS to see how long the sale is going to run, but figure you have one week, JANUARY 29th, to have your order on this thread... This way I can place the order by January 31st assuming that is when the sale ends... If not I will extend this order a couple of weeks... If you want other items, get their Item #'s and Quantity you want and add them to the thread as well... All orders must be paid for by January 31st... If you haven't paid me for your order, I will not place it... You can paypal me or mail me a check... If you choose to paypal, add on the 3% paypal fees...

This is only available to current ETRC members...

Thanks,
Randy

I'll take one Randy. I can't imagine that I'd need more than one for a while...ya know?

Check with Bob Studt at Aquarium Systems or DFS to make sure they've gotten their quality issues resolved on the RC salt. There were bad batches going around last month, and I got one bucket. Mg and Ca were low on the batches. Not a huge deal, as you can supplement to compensate, but with the recent bromide problems in CaCl supplements, one needs to be careful. I'm out for the moment as I have several buckets. Not trying to scare anyone away from RC just wanted you to know the pertinent issues. DFS resolved the issue for me promptly and has the best customer service I've seen to date in this industry.

Thanks for the heads up... I'll be sure to check when I call tomorrow... At least it doesn't throw off the pH something wicked like that bad batch of Kent's a few years back...

When you say the Mg and Ca were low, were they like Instant Ocean low, or non existant???

I'll take two Randy. Thanks for doing this. PP once total is told.

Mel, consider you are basically skimmerless w RSM so water changes are your alternative nitrate remover. Salt bucket water change per week is what I try to do.

did you know that you can get the 160g buckets of instant ocean at petsmart for $36? or the 58# buckets of oceanic for $40? no shipping.

or is there a reason it has to be reef crystals? tho, i thought they had reef crystals too...

Reef Crystals has higher levels of Ca and Mg than IO and that just makes it a bit easier to keep those levels up. IO is also good salt IMO. Plus our order will still get them cheaper including shipping.

i gotcha...

so that's $17.99 shipping, no matter how many buckets you get? wow! seems like they'd be losing money.

i'd like a CD-29131, for $44.99. let me know if i owe a portion of the shipping or tax or anything. pm me your address and total and i'll check or cash ya. thanks!

if its ok, i'd like one CD-29131, for $44.99. i'm not sure if i'm an official etrc member yet tho, if i need to send dues, etc. to become official, just lemme know. also, let me know if i owe a portion of the shipping or tax or anything. pm me your address and total and i'll check or cash ya. thanks!

Dana~ I'll call you this afternoon after I talk to DFS... You can mail me dues/membership form with the check for your order...

Yes, that is $17.99 shipping no matter how much you order... I'm going to see if I can get the club to pick up the tab on shipping too... FYI Instant Ocean is $29.59 if ordered through DFS, so even if you only bought 2 buckets through DFS, you'd be saving money... We're up to 17 buckets right now split between 6 people, after less than 12 hours of this being posted, so you can see we're saving quite a bit... :)

Don...I totally agree with you on considering the tank skimmerless at the moment. I was planning to do weekly water changes but I hadn't decided btw 7g or 10g.

Still though...if I keep to a regular schedule, at 10g water changed per week, that's still 4 months on one container of salt (realistically probably less). I figure I'll just try this salt out and see if it works well for me.

Randy...is the club going to buy a few extras to have on hand? We did that last time and it worked out pretty well (with the exception of deciding where to keep it and Art pretty much getting forced to store it for us for a while...then me).

You will not get the "advertised" # of gallons out of a bucket of salt at S.G. required for reef tanks.

Ok, just got off of the phone with DFS... RC has fixed their problems with the Ca and Mg... DFS said that if we tested our salt and had any problems they would of course take care of us... The sale doesn't end until 5/31/08... So I'm going to extend the deadline for placing orders until February 3rd... The order will be placed on February 6th... So I must have received all payments by the 6th, or your order will not be placed with the club... I'm going to try and coordinate it so that I can bring most of the salt to the meeting at Don's... If whoever orders and wants to pick it up when it arrives, I'll post when it does...

PM me if you need my address (paypal or snail mail)...

Melly~ I'll check with the BOD if we can buy some "club salt"... The problem would be storage more than anything else... I guess I could keep it in my crawlspace if necessary...

The buckets are water tight, so a crawl space would be more than adequate. It's not a big deal to me if we don't order salt as a club, especially since we might need all the funds for the frag swap, but I thought that since we did it last time I would go ahead and mention it.

I know it helped out more than one person last time.
