CMAS Forum Just for Classifieds Now?

I have been on here for at least 14 years, had a different name, got outta reefing for 5 years. Its definitely more of a trade/sale forum now. I do post frequently in the main forums and with search function you can find a lot of great info on here. It would be nice to see the c max forum with a little more substance.

I've seen this trend in other forums as well. It seems basic knowledge is thee already, albeit there are recent developments. This is a very dynamic hobby with many people coming/leaving often ... Hence the shift towards buy/sell posts.

Brian, a few years ago there were some mods that didnt care and would ban out of spite. and when you email them they would either ingore it or respond with something like go #$%^ yourself. I have had my run ins with the old mods and that is one of the reasons I stopped posting as much here. I never got nasty or sexual but let me tell you if you post about a banned store like the one that used to be in highland park instant ban..... and if you ask what you did they just say well you should know what you did.... but there isnt one post saying that you cant talk about that LFS....

We have lost many of our experenced reefers and even though they unbanned some i.e PufferPunk those members now choose not to come around here much anymore and are now posting on other forums everyday. RC lost many valuable members to the way the mods handeled things. Like my 3d printing thread I said I would be willing to print people the parts to make a diy frag rack for a frag or so and they deleted it out of my thread. stuff like that makes us leave and turns this place in to a selling forum.

EDIT: I should add I have been around these parts since 2007 and have seen it all. Some members deserved what they got, others like myself were treated VERY unfair for making simple mistakes that wernt posted anywhere in the rules.

I suppose people will see things as they see them, regardless of what's real.
No, we don't spend our time picking people out of the blue to ban, we don't ban people out of spite, and banning a member is very, VERY rarely a decision made by one person alone.
We have rules here (<a href="/forums/showthread.php?t=1746459">Selling on ReefCentral</a> <a href="http://www.reefcentral.com/index.php/user-agreement">User Agreement</a>), if you run afoul of them, we will contact you to let you know. If you choose to ignore that contact, we will try other means of catching your attention. Some businesses have given us reason to refuse to allow their name to be posted here. If you post it, we'll remove it and contact you to let you know it's an issue. If you continue to post that name after that, we have a problem, and removing your ability to post what we've asked you not to, and we saw you ignore that request, is a good way to solve it.
Long and short: Nobody has ever been banned from this site without giving us cause, plain and simple.

Sorry Larry....

In answering Phil plainly I seem to have unleashed hornets.

For anyone who doubts, just spend a couple hours in any other club forum here. You will see that it is this one that had the issues and where substantive discussion is less. Though it was always heavy on transactions too.

TheReefNinja,

Unless you had been banned yourself, you would never really know why someone was banned. Let's just say people aren't always up front with the reasons.

I got ya. The fact still remains we lost a lot of good members in the process and the CMAS forums will never be the same. lol but after all we are from Chicago some of us can go a little nuts at times.

Now back to reefing.

Long Live the OT CREW!!!!!!!!!!

Viva revolution!!!!!!

Good reef discussions went hand in hand with developing rewarding social relationships. The rewarding social relationships deteriorated for many reasons, but once the "fun" was over, the conversations, including reef conversations, stopped.

The perception appears to be that something has changed, when the reality is the number of posts devoted to "classified" type posts hasn't changed over the years.

I agree with that the number of FS threads have not really changed over the years...but what has changed is the amount of daily traffic we once had.
I remember when a thread started in the morning was quickly moved to page 2 or 3 by late afternoon/early evening.
Perhaps this is where the perception of "œall I see is FS threads" stems from because the threads just sit on page one and barely move.

As for people moving to another forum, I say this"¦most of the people that were heavily active on this site when I started in '07 are either gone from the hobby or, like myself, have minimized their daily participation in forums all together. A large number of the people on the other local forum started on that forum so it's inaccurate to say that "œeveryone" here left to go there.
Like any forum, there will always be a new crop of members that join in and older members that leave or slow down their participation.

IMO the biggest reason most people have left this forum in favor of the other local forum is based on that site's interaction with its members, such as contests and give-a-ways, which was never a function of this forum. It also does what RC did in that it promotes social interaction between its members.
So when you combine the two, which the masses wanted, people will naturally flock there.

I haven't been on the forum site in a long time, thought I'd drop by and see what's up; but it doesn't look like any there are any discussions any more; just classifieds on page after page.

makes me kind of sad.

:wavehand: Phil- are you thinking of getting back into the hobby? I love all your DIY stuff. :)

Hey there, Juggy! :wavehand: Long time, no talk. How have you been? Weren't you, Kizzle, and me supposed to get together for a wine tasting/Spanish sausage & ham pairing a while ago? We should meet up at Kizzle's vineyard and do that this summer. I've got some great wines that I've been working on that I'd love to share with you guys.

Blah blah blah...

Who invited you Bro? Haha...

:wavehand: JJ- I would love to be a sommelier for your wines! Summer at kizzle's vineyard would be perfect. Right now I am out of commission. I fell on ice when leaving the blackhawks outdoor game at soldier field on March 1st and broke my left upper arm and wrist. Had surgery 2weeks ago. Pm your phone number.

Sorry to hear about your tumble on the ice. I bet Orpick was involved, somehow. PM to be sent. We'll get together when you've recovered from your upper body injury.

On a side note, I'm playing Shoot the Puck at the Wolves game on the 19th for 4 tickets each month for the next ten years.

I'm more amazed of the people that bash us on other boards but sneak back under different names.

It's even more amazing when they post on this thread, thinking we don't know they are back under the new name.

I've got to agree with this. I check most of the sites frequently, but I used to be on here ALLLLL the time. I am trying not to spend money and I don't have the same issues I had when I was new. I participate when I can, but many things turn into battles over who is right, so many times I just keep quiet.

The OT crew was active, and some of the threads were fun, but I also saw many newbies get frustrated as the threads got off track by the "in" group. No offense to any of the OT crew. I participated in some of the threads they did as well. I also see where RC stands and this forum is more about helping other reefers vs. being a total social outlet. RC is not willing to sacrifice the reefing aspect to increase the social aspect. Some of the OT threads were just not where they wanted to go, so it makes sense that people would go separate ways. I can't blame either party.

So... with all of that in mind.... Anyone want to buy corals? I mean, what would a selling thread be without someone selling something?

I know, I know, I need a price. 1 million dollars will buy all of my corals - no trades. PMs only! Pickup second tuesday of next week!
