CMAS Frag Swap??

I hate to say this but I haven't heard much about/from CMAS lately...I wonder if it still a living entity anymore...hopefully someone from CMAS will chime in....

Last time I heard Spring Swap was going to be in April 26th, but not sure if it's at the Odeum again this year

Yup this place is dead now most members have moved to that other forum...... RC banned all of the old school CMAS people, and CMAS shot themselves in the foot by charging members to attend events and by not having monthly stuff anymore. I didnt renew my membership just for this reason. I remember when I first joined we had pizza parties at stores, 2 swaps, and monthly or so events at LFS's.

Anyone know if there is a swap planned for the spring?

Hey Bulldog, yes the CMAS Events Planning Committee is planning a Swap for this year. The Original Date was April 26th as Tank2379 suggested. There was a date conflict with the ODEM and we could not get the rate we got last year due to not having 4 other events on that same day like last year. We have Secured a date and location and have signed a contract, so the swap will be June 7th at the Dupage Expo Center. Official announcement will follow in the very near future.

If you were unhappy with the way the swaps have been run or late, please feel free to partake in the discussions and details for our next Awesome Swap! Not of the Details on Pricing for participants or vendors have been finalized, as we just secured the location and finalized the costs associated with hosting the event.

cet98...We are a very much alive entity...I appoligize if some people are not getting updates....please go to the link below... http://www.cmas.net/

And Click on the "Subscribe to our newsletter" Link so you are sure to be on our e-mail list for upcoming events.

I'm with Craig, I joined in November, still waiting for my membership to be active.

Craig, I'm not sure what you mean by "waiting for my membership to be active" Can you send me a PM on what is happening....are you asking about access to the forums, where your membership card is, or some other issue? I will address this concern immediately.

I miss the days of fragswaps it seems like there are barely any nowadays.

Just wondering how many frag swaps folks would like to see per year. This is a topic we are discussing at the Committee level and would love for others to join in the decision making process...It's not MY club...It's yours....so help steer the club in the direction you would like it see it taken....I Am NOt a Dictator. :D

I still feel like they screwed themselves by charging members for swaps against the policy stated on their site. Then didn't have a swap last fall. But anyway, here is their schedule

http://forums.cmas.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=642

Unfortunately this is not entirely true....For folks that came to the event, they received equal amount paid for entrance fee in raffle tickets with prices in access of $10,000 to be won...We we trudging into new water with increasing the size of the event, which we thought was what the people wanted, so we needed to be sure not to bankrupt the club and be responsible. We hope you all understand and partake in the discussion, as all your opinions are valuable and taken seriously by me and the Committees. We apologize if some threads got ouot of control, but we are really not in control of that. ;) The people that know us and showed up now the truth. ;)

I didnt know cmas was still around. Their forum is dead-er-er than this subforum.

The CMAS Forums were enacted specifically to discuss club business...if people wish to make it something more than that, it is up to them. We in no way wished to detract traffic from this forum as it is an extremely valuable asset to the reefing community in Chicago and abroad.

I personally have not had very much time to check the forums often. I actually received a call in regards to this thread and appreciate that. I am not intentionally trying to keep any information for any of you, we are now totally transparent with all aspects of the club, something I have been working hard to create....and something I committed to giving to the members from the start.

It's a bit of a shame that this forum has turned into mostly a buying and selling forum...and with that traffic, our announcement thread quickly go off to second and third pages if people are not bumping them up. We have announce all our past monthly events and they have all been great in my opinion.

Already address most of these issues ReefNinja, not sure if it is an accurate statement that "RC banned all of the old school CMAS people" as I am one of them and know most of them. Most have just been busy with other things, but it would be great to re-unite the club and this forum with all the past characters...as it was a blast! We have done monthly stuff, here are just a few:

Any Questions, comments, concerns or suggestions, please bring it to the Club forums and start a thread. We are in the process of doing more things online as well...the last club BOD meeting was via Google+, with future committee meetings and such held in that way, it should be very easy to partake in the discussions.....that was another goal and mission I wanted to achieve with taking on the President role of this awesome club....bring it into the current century with technology. We can do Live hangouts, training, interviews, and mentoring of new folks to assure we all have the best systems running and keep all these beautiful creatures alive and thriving in our tanks as well as staying connected as a community social as well.

I look forward to hearing from each and every viewer of this thread and Tell your friends there are some new and awesome things in the horizon.

Thank You for the opportunity to be of Service to you all,

Carl Kmiec
CMAS President/

p.s. Don't laugh at my spelling and/or typos...I'm not a real smart guy! ;)

Hey Carl, thanks for the response. I am very happy to see that CMAS is still hosting events. I just got back into the hobby and I wish I could have made it to Bills and Beffy's.

I am glad to see that there will be a Swap this year and I will be there for sure, as for how they used to be ran I had no issues with them at all. I look forward to it and anything else that gets planned. It is always nice to have something to plan for and save a little cash for.

Thanks for the response.

Ryan

I was really hoping the swap would be sooner. Maybe you can have 2 swaps a year, one on the north side of Chicago and one on the south side (Tinley Park has a nice convention center) of Chicago. It might draw different crowds, although we know the die-hards will be at both. Waiting over a year for a swap is too long in my opinion, I think there will be enough demand to have two a year.

Love the idea jm23!!! Check out some prices for us for something small and be at the next Planning Committee Meeting online and give us a proposal. ;)
Call if you need a little help with that. ;)

oh no there have been many moved on's from the cmas group. Most real discussion died when most our big posters got banned.

Just wondering some of the old screen names.....was all....to try and remember.

I know, in my experience, it is better to work directly with people so the information we give is not misconstrued...most of the extreme authority I know don't post because what the would post id off the norm of what some folks believe and it is not worth the argument. Trust someones information when you have seen there systems first. ;) Free tip! :D

I try to stick with my experience and what has worked for me directly.
