CNC Router

Can anyone recommend an affordable CNC router that has the capability of cutting flanges and other DIY needs?

Thanks,
Joe

That really depends on what your definition or "affordable" is.

You can build some of the DIY CNC routers for a couple of thousand. There is a very broad range of capabilites. 2 Axis stuff can be had pretty cheap with a 3rd axis that is just crude "up and down" to plung in and out of cuts. For true 3 axis mills, where the vertical axis is steppable.. the price goes up.

I am sure there are some small time CNC guys here that can help you choose a product to fit your price range.

I have a CNC milling machine. If your handy and can write code and do some simple basic electrical / electronical and have access to some tools you can build a 3 axis CNC for under $300 or so and thats usuing good linear bearings. I built one about 3 years ago that I had used hard making patterns for my home foundry use, and it was as accurate as the info fed into it.

Checkout: http://www.crankorgan.com/index.html

It has lots of info on DIY CNC. HIs machines he designs and sells plans for all work exceptionally well and would be more than suitable for any acrylic work your liable to encounter, and a host of other things. I no longer use my CNC router as my mill is so much more versitile and easier to use, but in all reality there is no cheap CNC to speak of.

Wanna package that puppy up and send it this way?

I have spent hours on the crankorgan site... I could never source the parts cheap enough to build the darn things.

Then the site listed is the site for you! Ther are a lot of other DIY CNC sites. I honestly spent a week reading thousands of pages. The organgrinder site seems to be the best stop for a first CNC project. I never built one but I sure did put a lot of time into reseraching them!

i have fallow this page for some days and i need to know this cnc what is for what can you cut or ingrave can you cut circule with it

what can you do some one have pics of the work for this?

A cnc can cut just about anything that you can model in CAD.

Yes it can cut a circle. Take a look at the Solsylva site mentioed above. It has several examples of work done on that style DIY CNC. The quality of work looks quite impressive for an affordable DIY. If you are working in hard metals, then simple wood and pipe cnc will not be enough. If you are a simple hobbiest, though, it might be "good enough".

I for one have been leaning towards the Solsylva machine as my first build. The crankorgan site has some nice affordable machines, but I want it big enough to build its replacement. CNC is a lot like reefkeeping, it is self duplicating.

$1000 is just way to much for me to put into something like this (that I may never finish!)

What do you guys feel an honest cost on the solsyva machines are? Tiny they look to be about the same as the crankorgan designs. It's been about a year since I looked at either site... but lat I remember they seems just about the same?

At this point I am can't see paying for the plans only to find out I really can't afford to buy the parts.

heres the one I built , i use it to cut all my flanges and such , I love it .
The table is 3 by 4 foot
