CNC Router

looks like cat5 but with more conductors. i paid for some wire when i ordered my hobbycnc steppers - it looks like cat5 also, but i think it has 6 conductors. the instructions say 22awg wire is sufficient, i hope so. the plan for me is 36 volt 3 amp per stepper. i've felt like hammered dog poo for the last week, maybe i can shake the sickness and get mine going this coming week. congrats on the start bfuller!

I would be worried that the cat5 is solid conductor (in most cases) and is not really suited to the continuous bending...

Bean

thats a concern of mine, as well, bean. because apparently, if you get a short or a stepper becomes disconnected, it will blow the driver chip. the wire is multi conductor; however, so hopefully i wont experience that. what is elevator cable, and where can i get some?

some pics of my progress

i really don't know where can you get it because i get my out extra from jobs i do but what i know is this is made to flex up and down the elevator shaft and is really good for the machine it should do the work

hey thanks blfuller123

here are some new pics i can see to stop building tomorow i will make the last part and then the wires

I read throught Joe's thead and I have all his files and I might have an inside to having somebody cut my parts for cheap or free but was kind of leary for my first machine. I found the thread by Linoclaw for his machine and might make his instead. He sells his parts for $350 and also has posted his plans.

I always thought about making one but for the price could not justify it but the price has come down and I think that it would be a great learning process and fun and probably a sink hole for spare change like a tank but oh well.

thesaent14, I'm using Mach3 and for the cad I have been using Corel Draw just cause I have it. I am shopping for a CAD system. I can't decide.

blfuller123, Its Cat-5 cable with four twisted pairs. It was free so I used it. I am using the e-chain so it doesn't bend a very tight radius so I don't foresee a problem. If it becomes a problem I will just buy something better.

hey i was working this weeck but tomorow i will finish and try to test the machine dose any one have a copy of mach 3 i can get i just got autocad 2006 and 2007 i have to get some extra money to get the mach if i have to buy cus i just pay for the cad sofw

I have been trying to sell a lot of CNC router parts for a little while now. I was talking to bean animal for a bit. I have the plans to build the same table as Fluxion. I didnt like how some of it was susposed to be built so I bought much upgraded parts. Mainly I upgraded the rails, rail supports, and changed the lead screws from all thread to 1/2" x 10 acme screw. these are 60" long...

railsnblock

I have the 3 axis kit from xylotex. as well. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM and I can give you the full rundown.

lookin good bfuller123! are those THK linear bearings?
i got my motors mounted to the lead screws. need to find a project box to place the controller in, a junk computer case to put the mobo and drives in, and wire up the steppers. got a little behind due to the huge ice storm a couple weeks ago. ran on a generator for 4 days til the co-op got power restored. didnt lose any fish, either, and i am glad! all the folks i saw at the LFS didnt fare so well. one guy claimed his tank got to 60ish degress and the fish were all swimmin sideways. power came back and he said they lived! he was the exception to the rule, though.

Yes they are THK bearings. I got the x axis bolted together and now I am in the process of getting the rails and bearings lined up and mounted.

ive been somewhat lurking in this thread. i love the whole cnc router thing. gotta be the coolist tool available. so ive been thinking on how to build a small, low cost, light duty unit and i think i may have come up with a plan.
a couple old flat bed scanners and printers, and a dremmel. is this feasible? im sure i could build the thing but running it with a computer would be a another story. maybe ill google it and see if someone else has tried it.
EDIT
if nothing else it might be a cheap source for small stepper motors. i know a few have looked for here at the diy forum.
EDIT
googled and im not the first with this idea. i wonder if someone built one though.
