Can mantis and harliquin shrimp stay in the same tank? Lets say a 10 or 12 gal, or 20 long?

I know I should probably read up on it, but just wanted a quick answer first.

I sure wouldn't put mine together. My mantis comes out and attacks anything that drops in the tank.

Narkon, I think its best you not put the two together. I am sure if the mantis is very small, it won't do much to a larger harlequin, but if the mantis is the same size or bigger, it will definitely attack and try to eat the harlequin.

Keep the two away! :-)

So go for two tanks then. Ok, when I do get to that point, well then I have to make a choice on which one I would want to keep.

You might want to factor in availability of food for the Harlequin. It's not always easy to find starfish. Luckily I have Asterini stars in my main tank. They will eat them if they have to. Mantis will about eat anything.

Must not as I'm not sure what you're talking about!:D Except for varying shades, they do pretty much all look alike. They are pretty cool. This one tried to bat me when I have my hands in the tank.

Mutt, I meant Mutt not Muggle. Don't know what i was thinking, since I am not currently reading Harry Potter books.

Actually I meant did you take that pic, are you also posting on Aqualink.

it will be kapow!

it will be kapow!

...I am with the others. ANYTHING put in with Little Ben is imediatlly pounded. It is not always related to eating, Ben is just a "bad boy or girl":D Debi nice pics.............Steve:dance:

LOL, yes that's me!:D There's a couple of us with Harlequins there.

I showed my wife the harliquin pic, and then we seen some in a LFS, and she thought they were so perty, then I told her what they ate. She doesn't know if she can stomach it.

Course don't know if she would be able to stomach watching a mantis eat a fishy or snail either. She is not much into actually watching nature at work, she rather likes the more peaceful parts of nature.

About how much the a pair of Harlequins consume a week? Do you have to cut up the stars or just drop them in and they can take care of it themselves?

I cut one and that was the end of that. They're really hard to cut. It just sort of depends. I buy a couple a month. My 2 are both females so I had to separate them. I'd try to make sure they were pairs also. I get a deal on the starfish, but those are not cheap either.
