CO2 Control

I have an AquaController Jr. Currently I have the pH probe in my display tank. What I want to do is control pH of my calcium reactor. If the pH of the reactor is too low, I want the solenoid to close. I don't think I can do this because there is only one pH probe. Am I correct? If so, I guess I would have to buy a seperate pH controller. Please confirm.

You are correct; if you want to control the PH within the reactor you would want to place a PH probe within the reactor (or it's effluent) and use the reading to turn on/off the C02 solenoid.

That's what I thought. Let me ask you this. Aside from putting a connection in the reactor column to accept the pH probe, how else could I postion the probe to measure the pH of the reactor effluent?

Hey Salt!

I put a probe inline with the recirc side of the RX. Cut the line, added a "T" with a rubber cone washer and compression fitting. Works like a charm. The AC controls the CO2 solinoid based on this probe.

Another idea:

I once had a cup, attached to the side of the sump in which the effluent flowed, and the overflowed into the sump. I placed the probe in the cup which gave me the PH of the effluent and allowed control of C02.

Back when I was setting up CO2 on planted FW tank, I remember reading on plantedtank.net how pH probe should be positioned not horizontally but vertically and pointing down because of the electrolyte solution at the end of the probe, and secondly, any air pockets around the tip of the probe should be avoided. Just something to consider.

Do you have a link to this PH electrode orientation? I have found nothing from the manufacturers on this.
