Im from canada and most of our scuba diving is done in colder water anyone else do coldwater dives and were do you do them.
O and has anyone dived in tofino vancouver island BC i dont know if you can do it but it would be nice
What do you consider cold water dives? I consider anything in the 40s cold, a buddy of mine considers anything below 75 cold... I dive in southern California, water ranges from 50 to mid 60s...
I dive in the Puget Sound area, water ranges from 45-55 it seems. I was recently drysuit certifired, but I think this summer I'm going to pick up a semi-dry suit and see if I can handle it. Sometimes the bulk of a drysuit is too much for me to deal with.
If you consider mid 40's and higher then yes, I dive in waters that cold in Arizona....the lakes get that cold in the winter here... I wear a 7mil full wet suit, hood, gloves, and boots....I stay plenty warm... Makes for some fun dives!!!!
I too dive in Puget sound, but am currently on San Juan island which is very close to vancouver island. I'm diving alot for some research and often doing mulitiple dives in a 7mm full and 7mm step in hooded vest. Although I do get cold after the first dive if the surface interval isn't very long, I can handle it too an extent. I'm in the works for a drysuit however. Visibilty up here in the san juans is much better than most areas I've dove in the Puget Sound and I hear it gets better as you get up further north.
I did my lessons in a lake up in Mackenzie back in May where there was still snow in the parking lot. And my first dive after that was off of Ogden point in Victoria. All you do is wear a 7mm wetsuit with hood, gloves and boots and its not even cold. Well Mackenzie was freaking cold but Victoria was nice.
