Collecting via Dive Boat

I just got back from Fort Lauderdale. I was diving on several reefs where I'd love to take a samples of:

* blue bell tunnicates
* pink lumpy sponge
* basslets
* shrimp

As people where fishing off these reefs, it seems reasonable that I could keep some specimens, but how does one find out about how to do this legally and ethically.

make sure you clear it with the boat beforehand. I collected on a few boats out of lighthouse point and they didn't have a problem since i asked beforehand.
same thing goes for spearfishing, people sometimes get upset when you bring a gun on board without asking first . . .
