Colors of soft coral

I found a website that sells cool soft corals such as green Kenya tree, blue devil hand, rose leather, red/orange tree coral. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they are dyed or really that color. I don't want to buy dyed coral. Thanks

I rarely see dyed corals now a days. So I would assume they are not. Orange/Red tree corals are non-phytosynthetic and require a constant supply of food within the water column they are best left to those system specifically designed for NPS corals. In attempt to meet their nutritional needs you can foul the water.

No they are not dyed. Lighting makes a huge difference. The blue devil hand may actually look a bit more pale with fully inflated. Either way both are easy corals.

Might want to read some of the reviews on that company before purchasing.

Nanook,
Others have told me they are not very good so I will look else where for thes corals. Just making sure no dye. Thanks

That "blue devils hand" is actually a species of thick branching sinularia. Try looking at www.AquaCorals.com. I work with the owner Penny Harkins up their. She has aquacultured frags on site that she cuts and grows from her own healthy parent colonies. Prices are near the same if not better. Worth a look.

I was more interested in the blue devil hand coral and rose leather.

When expanded, that 'blue devil's hand' will look grey with a hint of purple. It's a rock-common color morph. The 'rose leather' will be brown to mustard, again very common.

You rarely see dyed corals or anemones anymore, and when they do turn up they're almost always flourescent yellow these days.
