Comment on 112 gal stocking list

Alright I initially posted a similar list on the beginner forum a few weeks back and after listening to a few recommendations and doing a little more research here is a "final list". I may always add another fish or two but it would be at most 2 and something smaller.

This list is in order of how I plan to introduce them to the tank....

3-4 peppermint shrimp
orange stripe goby
yellow watchman goby
yellow striped cardinal
purple firefish
red velvet fairy wrasse ( C. Rubrisquamis)
black axil chromis
mandarin
yellow eye kole tang

If anyone has any recommendations I have not thought of with respect to fish behaviors let me know. My goal is a peaceful, happy healthy tank.

That looks like a good stock list. You should have a nice tank with that group. Since you've done research on the fish, I'm sure you know the tank has to be established for a long time before it can support a mandarin. Enjoy!

Right on the mandarin and that's sort of why I put it second to last. Do you think that will create any issues putting the mandarin in last or second to last?

I would put it in after the Kole, give your tank some time until you see a good amount of pods. You must have a nice size refugium as well.

looks good but maybe a nice "showpiece" active fish.

OP had mentioned a wrasse - Lineatus are beautiful fish (a bit costly). Bellus angels are also great fish imo.

Good luck.

Ya I just looked at a Lineatus Fairy wrasse and they are gorgeus fish. Any issue with the 2 wrasses, the lineatus and the rubrisquamis? Which one should be added first?

Any issues with anything else you guys think?

Thanks again!

I think the rubrisquamis is kind of obnoxious. Maybe a small group of flashers instead? Also, the mandarin shouldn't be bothered by any of the fish on your list, but you should wait six months or so until your tank is better established.

I mean that the red velvet fairy tends to be kind of territorial as wrasses go. They might give other wrasses a hard time. Fairies are generally more likely to be that way than flashers.

Thanks! I may go with 2 flashers and the lineatus, and not add the Kole Tang. I've heard the koles can be finnicky.

I've had great experiences with Kole tangs. They swim around a lot, eat algae, and they're pretty sociable. I recently got a Bristletooth tang and it's really nice, too.

The mandarin should be either in a well established tank or bottle fed monthly to add pods to the tank. I have a 165g and a 6-line wrasse and a psychedelic mandarin. The wrasse eats pods from the mandarin. I still have to add pods! Just food for thought.

Thanks for the replies. In regard to the mandarin, I plan to get one from ORA. These are already trained to accept food other than pods. I also plan on waiting 4-6 months just to let the tank and 20 gal fuge build a good base of pods since that is what they normally eat anyway though.

I love the personality of Tangs but feel I might be better off with 2-3 wrasses and skip the Tang at this point. I'll just sort of wait and see on that fish.

ORA are not all alike. Some can eat pellets etc and others still refuse to eat anything but pods. It's a crap shoot really.

I think it's smart to buy a Mandarin from the ORA..mine definitely isn't but she seems to be trainable. Fish Roe is good for feeding...mine also seems to be nibbling at Roggers Reef Food Good luck with your tank
