Common for larger sps tissue to die on bottom where there is little light?

I recently went from a 90g w/ t5s to a 37 with a single 250mh. I have a frag of blue tipped acro grow out quite well in the 90. I moved it an d its been in the 37 for about 3 months. It has colored up but I'm guessing the single point of light and repositioning of the coral caused some shaded area on the lower region. Is it common for those areas shaded to loose tissue? My smaller frags and monti colonies are doing great.

Parameters:
Phos-0ppm w/ Hanna checker (recently bright it down to 0)
Nitrate -0ppm (recently brought down)
Ca 440-460
Alk 9.2
Sg 1.026
Mg 1300-1400 elos

how is the flow ?

I found that if the flow is really high, then the shaded areas will get enough nutrition to show same colors !!

I have no Idea if this is true or not

if its DYing from bottom up though, its STN, if just less color what I said above, maybe

in the shading area is not much important any more ,,just like in the nature for the big colony, but water flow is become the most importance for them,,must

Corallites and polyps on the shaded areas of the colony tend to recede and become relatively smoother over time but living tissue still will be present and when re-exposed to light and good flow will regain their original form.

Hmm. Flow is good. I have 2 koralia evo 1400 in there + the return. The tissue is gone in e shaded region. What should I do? Everything else looks good. No pests from what I can see. The other frags I got a month ago are all doing well.

I was thinking of replacing the evos with an mp20. The encrusted base is fine, but the base of the stalk is bare in some areas.

color will always be off in areas of little to no light, but good flow will keep the tissue very much alive

I'll try to increase flow around this piece... is there anything else I should do? I have been feeding a lot less than normal lately due to high Phos and NO3(high as in .08 phos and 10ppm nitrate, nothing crazy). Both are now 0 and have been for a few weeks. Should I add something to supplement food for the corals? I have freeze dried BRS reef chilli, but Im not sure thats beneficial to SPS.

I suggest frozen cyclopeeze ... temporarily turn off the flow and swirl them a little bit around your sps colonies.

What kind of food do you guys use? should I try an additive or selcon or something, amino acids or just feed my fish more? I've been battling a minor case of hair algae and elevated PO2 and NO3 so I might have to beef up my filtration if i increase food.

cool pic happy

Although if it was to show an example of a bn eating something large..........grabbing it, does not necessarily mean it eats it
