Common window screen material

Is this stuff metallic or synthetic/plastic. I'm trying to design a carbon container out of PVC pipe. The window screen material is the perfect size, but I don't want to put any adverse or corrodable materials in the system.

Good question Mark...I have a big roll leftover from when I screened in the back porch.

It's blk and the grid is probably only an 1/8th or 1/4". I'd like to use it in my builds but I'm concerned about what the material and also the size of the holes.

I THINK it's nylon.

I don't have a carbon reactor, I think they're a PITA but I'm concerned about getting good exposure with carbon in a bag. I was going to cut the sides off of a 2" piece of PVC pipe. Then full in the gaps with screen an lay it over the baffles of the sump and let water gently massage the ROX on its way through. Better than sitting in a clump in a bag.

I've been running nylon window screen over my drains (full water contact) for about 10 years now.

Another option that may work for you is the "plastic canvas" used in knitting/crochet. It's def more rigid than screen but it is plastic and I've seen it used plenty to cover overflows.

It can be found at Michaels or any craft store I imagine.

I burned a sample, and although it felt like plastic, it didn't melt like I expected. It's non-metallic. But is more fibrous and threadlike.

Guessing it's a more advanced form, but still nylon?

i bought a roll from HD the other day. "Clear Advantage"brand,it says on the package its fiberglass.

yes theres some that is fiberglass for sure ,its so much stronger than plastic

Definitely looks like fiberglass/resin. If it's nylon it will melt since it's a thermoplastic. If it's metal and you bend it, it will hold it's shape.
