Comparison of Live Rock Types

Hi

I have seen various types of Live Rock mentioned in my research and before starting my 24G nano I would like the opinion of you guys on the following Live Rock based on filtration, weight, quality and hitchhikers:

Fiji Premium
Fiji Totoka
Bluestone
Indonesia

Thanks

I'm not sure what the difference is between the first two options on the list, but rocks from that region have always been good to me. No doubt!

Good luck.

I have Vanuatu. Very light & porous, so more rock for your weight/buck. Back when I got my first 75 lbs, I had lots of hitchhikers, but the only bad ones were hydroid jellyfish. I just got 15 more lbs to supplement my old stuff & it was pre-cured, so no hitchhikers at all.

Online. Years ago from aquacon.com (won't recommend them anymore tho, they're not too reliable anymore). This time from vividaquariums.com. Don't go by the pic on their site, tho, it's not an accurate representation at all, it's much nicer and less "rock" looking than their pic. They also sell that and some other types that are very nice on livestockusa.org. I would have bought from them, but they didn't have less than 40# packages & I wanted only 15#. Even the pics on liverockusa don't do the rock justice.

If you want to see pics, let me know & I'll start an album here & upload some.

+1 for vanautu it's my favorite very porous and looks really nice 95% of my tank has it and I have larger pieces of it dried out waiting to go in my 210.. IMO I don't like Fiji it big bulky and lacks luster not very porous or good for filtration in my opinion I have used alot of it over the years now I only use flat pieces of it for ledges to put corals on..

I have vanautu as well and love it. I had mine ordered from a friend in the business and we got about 250lbs of it at the time special ordered with larger pieces. Note, if you special order and request sizes be careful, once piece was an entire box but an awesome show piece. +1 for livestockusa, I would have ordered through them if I didn't have the connection at the time. Just make sure you give any transshipped lr plenty of time to cure and warn anyone in the house it's going to smell for a few days

The great thing about vivid was I sent him an email reply to my order confirmation & told him exactly what I wanted (I already had show pieces & wanted smaller stuff) and they hand picked them for me. Some of the branchier rock will get broken in shipment, but I was ok with that cuz I wanted rubble for the sump too, so it worked out perfect for me. My show pieces from years ago are large, table shaped coral rock. Oh, and mine came 2 day air & smelled like the ocean, both times...nothing stinky in there!

Thanks for the replies guys but we cant get vanautu in the UK as far as I am aware.

I am quite intertested in Bluestone and wonder if anyone has any experience of this rock?

I heard they weren't selling Marshall Island anymore, but I also heard that about Vanuatu LOL. hmmm, didn't pay attention & realize you were in the UK. I don't know what they are & aren't allowed to sell there!

Give me a few minutes & I'll put some pics in the album.

OK, pics in the album.
I don't know what it is about this site, but some of my pics show as pics, and some show as links. I haven't figured out what the trigger is yet. I knew it did it on threads, but I don't know why it would do it in an album. I have everything in my tank set in Flickr, addy in my profile.

They stopped Marshall rock in 07 but i come across it now and then.. just have to know the right people ;)

Yeah, I figured you could still get some out there somewhere, if nothing else at least from tanks being taken down!

My original rock was from aquacon years ago. I'm hearing nothing good about their livestock or customer service now so buyer beware. Also, it doesn't look like their site has been updated (livestock/pic wise) since '03...actually, they're using one of my pics of a fish without my permission (and have been since '03) & won't take it down or even respond to me.

what pic?

Many people have reported this, I personally know a bunch (over a dozen) that have had this happen to them. Check their BBB rating if you want to see something scary.
