compatibility of Goldflake Angel

I have a 90 mixed reef w/ a yellow tang, melanaurus wrasse, 2 perculas and a yellow tail damsel (I know! but it's 12 yrs old and my first fish) and a 75 sump/fuge. I would like to add a gold flake angel and need some learned opinions on compatibility. I am ok w/ the possibility of coral nipping but don't want to plunk down $$ if the consensus is a 'clear no'. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on your Chrysiptera being 12 years old. No need to apologize. The Chrysiptera are one of the most under appreciated fish genus in the hobby. They got unfairly grouped in with the aggressive damsels.

Anyway, short term a small goldflake should be ok, as they are better suited for a 125 or larger. But considering it would be the only other large fish besides your yellow tang, it would probably be fine for a long time. I'm sure I'll get hell for saying that.

I think the biggest obstacle is the bioload implications, especially during the first few weeks when you'll be feeding him lots to get him trained on frozen and dry foods. Just keep up with water changes.

Also, be sure and quarantine. Goldflakes have a tendency for flukes.

The bioload increase is a good point, I am disciplined w/ water changes and I may increase for 20 to 30 gall per week. Yes, my yellow tail (Irene) is a keeper and not as disagreeable as the person it is named after.

I can acclimate/QT the GF and keep it in my fuge for some time so it will minimize the environmental stress when introduced into the display. I have alot of live food in the display and have gone several days w/o feeding, the fish all stay healthy and are not skinny. Do you have any particular suggestions for food?
Thanks again

Mine eats everything. I attribute it to being quarantined with more easily fed fish. I find fish learn to accept artificial foods faster in the company of fish that already do. The QT was a smaller space too so easier to keep it around food. I started with littleneck clams, and moved on from there. He eats spectrum pellets and flake now.

I planned on similar - my QT will only the GF. I have clams and the rock in my tank has a lot of small sponges. I feed primarily hikari Mysis but will probably mix in some specific angel food. Thanks for your help, I'll post a pic when I get the fish

I would QT in a tank not attached to your display and treat with Prazio Pro twice, as Mark said a lot of large angels are prone to having flukes.

Agreed - I'll qt in a separate environment. Rather than dropping it into the tank I though to put it in the fuge for a while (after QT) so it can get used to the tank water b4 getting into the display
