Conditions Good For Carpet?

I currently have a beautiful carpet anemone on hold at the LFS. He has been there for about 2 weeks so far and is still looking in great condition (I only put it on hold today). I just want to make sure that my system, at least equipment wise, is more than capable of caring for such a delicate creature before I bring it home.

It is a 75g with approx. 100# of LR, a 2" fine sand bed, 2x250W 10k halides with 2x54W T5 actinics, a 30g sump/ref, ASM G1X skimmer, Mag 950gph return pump, and twin modded MaxiJet 900s. I trust my ability to maintain water parameters (I have successfully been keeping SPS in nano tanks for over a year now without skimmers and other good equipment :)).

Any tips, things to watch out for, advice, warnings, etc are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS: Is $70 for a 7-8" diameter BRIGHT blue carpet a good price?

Wow what a deal, where do you live, lol. Yea you should be absolutely fine. Good luck and dont forget they like to eat the odd fish here and there.

Sounds like a good price. Do you know what species of carpet it is? There is a good FAQ on anemones in the FAQ thread on the top of this forum to help you.

How long has this tank been up and running?

Only about a week and a half (yeah, I know, a no no), but I thought it was a good deal and one of the prettiest specimens I've seen. I took into consideration that all the rock and stuff was from already established tanks and I really had very little cycle and thus kind of consider it a somewhat already established tank. Does that assumption make some sense? Again, I know it's not ideal with the tank's age, but I guess sometimes you have to take calculated risks in this hobby.
I figured as long as everything else checked out well for it and that as long as it was playing stable I could risk a younger tank.

wrong.. my 30g. cube and my 90g. had liverock from an established 220g. reef tank (even got zoas, GSP, mushrooms as hitchhikers)... the tank still had a rough time adjusting... ask them to hold it for you.. thats what im doing...
(lol.. similar to your anemone.. mine is the same size, color, and is $65 lol.. thats funny)

Yeah, I'm having them hold it for right now, but they can only hold it for so long.
My tank hasn't had a hard time adjusting and I wouldn't put anything in if I wasn't confident that it was doing well. I have 2 weeks to observe the tank before I have to pick it up. I figure if there are any problems between now and then I'll be a little more wary, but if things continue fine I should be in the clear.

I doubt it will have much of a chance in such a new tank. It is possible but it will be a tough time. Do you know what species of carpet it is?

stealing my line. eh? :D

This question really needs to be answered, nosferatu51.
Husbandry for the different species is quite different.
Most likely the anemone is a blue Stichodactyla haddoni, but it might be a S. gigantea. See the Anemone FAQ at the top of this forum for help identifying carpet anemones.

I made the problem easier and decided to cancel the purchase :)
It really was beautiful and I'm pretty sure a great deal, but no matter how good a deal it doesn't seem like I would have had a good chance keeping it alive. Apparently somebody else walked out with it not long after I cancelled....hope they can take care of it because I know my tank would have been great for it a few months from now. Don't want it going from the pan to the fire if you know what I mean.

Probably the best decision nosferatu. I'm sure that down the line, when you've done a little more research about the different carpet species you'll be able to find another dream anemone.

You certainly can keep a BTA in the interim as they are relatively easy to find one in good condition and pretty affordable.
