configure wavebox

Finally got my wavebox installed last night. It seems the most wave I get for my 211g tank is 0.5 inch. My tank dimension is 68 inch long x 30 inch wide, 24 inch deep

I put the wavebox in one of the corner. I had to keep the pulse low, becase when dialed above mid point - the wavebox started to pump out micro-air bubbles and very noisy. I would say the pulse setting is dialed 1/3 away from minimum setting. The wavebox is about an inch above water line.

Instead of rocking from left and right - what I observe is rocking in 4 corners.

I wonder if this has to do with the width of the tank (30 inch)? or if larger wave can be achieved if I move some rock?

You might need to center tghe wavebox a bit more and you can't have any thing blocking the outlet, for a tleast 2ft I would not have anything on the level of the outlet, you can have rock below and above and in front or behind. 1/2"- 3/4" sounds like about right for this size tank but I think if you center it more and get the right timing it should be a more uniform wave. It doesn't have to be centered but in such a wisth the corners might not be optimal.

I noticed that in my 36" wide tank, I can't have it in the corner or I end up getting a weird asymmetrical and slightly self destructive wave pattern. I moved it to the center and the wave effect changed significantly - it eliminated the asymmetry and also seemed to result in a much bigger wave.

Thank you.

Well, corner is what the instruction suggested - and it looked better there. But moving it to the center makes sense, so I'll try that and see how well it works.

Okay, I centered the wavebox on the side...and man oh man!! Just slightly more than 1 inch each side. All I can say was holy cow!

I put together a video to show how this device can put out alot of wave. You can see just about every coral respond to the wave, including mushroom, peral/bubble coral. Movie file size is about 2.6 mb in size. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The wave is slighly more than 1 inch in each side. all I can say was holy cow!

HOLY COW!

Damn that is amazing!

Can you get a top of water side shot to show how it goes down the tank and how it affects the top lip of tank?

How deep is your tank?

Thanks,

Todd

Todd, this tank is 24 inch deep, 68 inch long, 30 inch wide - so about 211 gallon.
I'll take a new video of whole tank soon after I fix a few things.

Here is a new video of the entire tank. It's not easy fitting the whole tank in the camera - the video appears to be too dark unless you playback full screen (then the quality looks bad). Also included in video are closeup of corals responding to the wave.

Wow....those wavebox's move some water. How have your fish and corals reacted to the new water motion? Do you turn it off or down at night?

The wavebox comes with a light sensor - so I think the pump is either turned off or in low speed at night. I did not see the big wave in the evening after MH is turned off.

Man that thing is GREAT!

Thanks for the update video. NICE CLAM!

Is it kind of noisy? Sounded like you could hear it in the video.

Thanks again,

Todd

Lol, those poor fish... what a ride!

Cool video. Makes me want to get a 6 ft. tank so I can have better wave (mine's 4 ft.)

I *love* the wavebox. FWIW, I've had hair algae to one degree or another for the past 2 years, and now I have none.

It sounds like oosh, oosh. Not bad at all. I have 2 tanks in the area, and the sound is not noticeable compare to other water splashing.

I'm waiting on multicontroller and a 6100 stream.

Why do you want a 6100 and controller? It seems like that wave box sure has your tank rockin! I think I want one. I wonder how it will work on a 4' tank because that is what I have now.

I just came back from Tunze.com and could not find anything regarding a wave box? Where did you find it and how much are they?

My understanding is that you let the wavebox runs for hours that stirs up all the detris. Then wavebox is turned off - and stream runs to push the detris to overflow. Multi-controller has a tide mode that you can set each device to runs hours. I forgot if it's wavebox 6 hours, then stream 6 hours, or 12 hours.

DT's_Reef - my 150 gallon is 15 inch deep. Otherwise I would love to add a wavebox because I'm having problem with algae in that tank. I recently added another 6100 (now a total of 3 on multicontroller) to hopefully stir up the water more.

Hey Roge,
do you have the specs on the Wave Box? I have a 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 sps reef. Where should I place the the wave box to get the optimum flow?

Thanks.
