Tank Tinkerer
Well, I have some zoas, an oxypora, lots of ricordeas, some frogspawn, acans and some blastos doing really well, sitting 1/2 to 1/3 from the top of my 22inch deep tank (water top to sand top). I have a piece of acro given to me about 6 inches from the top fo the water and it seems to be doing well. I have a 6 inch Maxima clam that "perches" up on the top of the highest rock about 8 inches from the water top and it's doing fine. Now for the "not so good" part: I have 2 Lobos, a Wellso and some Sun Polyps too on the sand bed. The Lobos and Wellso are receding. My phos has been bouncing around from 0.03 one day to 0.1 the next, because I've been spot feeding a mixture of mysis, cyclopeeze and dried zooplankton to the ailing Lobos and Wellso every other day or so, which causes the phos to shoot up to 0.1. I have been using Rowaphos in a bag in the reactor with the Eco-bak pellets in the same reactor. I do 10-15% water changes almost every weekend in the 120 gal DT. I have chaeto in the fuge. I may have been giving the Lobo and Wellso too much light, as was suggested here, so I moved the Lobo to a half shaded/half no direct light spot. It had receded from 100% good to only 25% left before I moved it. I read yesterday that I should not pull out a Lobo or Wellso until the VERY last bit of tissue dies, because sometimes they can recover, but when I put the Lobo is a more shaded spot, the 25% of tissue left has turned to 10% left in 2 days. I'm stumped. I used to get full puffy extension on the Wellso and Lobos when feeding. I'm really bummed about the Wellso, because I haven't moved it or changed the lighting in the last month and it's going downhill slowly. I've tried to feed it for the last 2-3 days, but I don't think it's working. Wha t could cause the Wellso to recede? It was doing fine before. The 2 X 60 watt LED pendants sit 10-12 inches over the water and I've used a 37 watt Reefbrite strip on top of the plastic aquarium frame to supplement on one of the long edges. The Reefbrite only has 24 bulbs (4 patches of 6 each), so I don't think they are as powerful as the OCReef pendant I have or one of the AI pendants I've seen.
