considering 220g macro DT

I have a 220 thats is asking to have something done with it. At one time it was a thriving reef but due to a bad storm back in august that had a 5 day electric outage that crahed the tank. It has been empty since.

A few questions, with the nitrate levels being high should i worry about hair algae? Should i welcome hair alage?

Where is a good place to get macros?

Fish wise could i have a few lions? And butterflys?

Any pointers or advice would be awesome.!

Gulf Coast Eco System is the best place to buy plants: live-plants.com. Also at the website is the best guide and reference book on the care of Marco algae that I have seen.

The use of macro algae to control micro algae like hair algae is not always automatic. I use herbivores to prevent hair algae from getting established.

do it! sounds like a fun system. I have been trying to set up a 20L for a few months..but need to get my main tank up 1st..

ebay and other macro reefers are a good place as well.
keep us posted!

A 220 lettuce tank?! You're silly if you don't do it :D

For sources, Gulf Coast Eco is good, but get your posts up and then watch the sales forums here. Periodically you find another macro guy who is doing trimming and you can score a windfall. eBay is also pretty good, so I second the above info.

Woah! I would totally go for it. My tank is wimpy compared to a 220... Especially since i keep it half full. Don't ask why. I think it has something to do with gas exchange/fish jumping/I don't like tall narrow tanks/etc. I'd love to get a huge tank and fill it to the rim with macros and a few softies, and plop in a bunch of butterflies and other fish you can't typically have in a reef.

I think im going to hold off on it for a little bit, maybe do a fw planted tank. I have 125 reef that is just starting to get in line so for now that's my main focus. Thanks for the support tho it would of been sweet!
