Continuous water changing system?

Hey all,

Are you running a continuous water changing system? If so which one? And why did you choose the one you did.

I'm looking into the genesis system, but am open to the idea of DIY or litemeter III unit.

For the people that have the genesis system do you like it?

Thanks for you help.

It's hard to get any information about the different systems. I have spoken to Kevin from genesis systems and I'm pretty impress, but I just want to see what others have to say before I pull the trigger.

3 gallons a day with a LM3 system. Also have multiple PM2s on the apex which will shut down the LM3 if salinity starts to change along with float switchs just in case something was to ever go wrong.

Using a liter meter 3 to dump wast water and a ghl aquarium computer to moniter salinity. When it lowers a slave pump pumps salt brine back into system.

I have a genesis ref storm plus renew and i love it. i have noticed PE much more it is an amazing system. i don't run in on a controller BC it is its own controller. it is amazing. press a button and you choose weather continuos/daily/weekly changes. it is pretty amazing i must say

Wow , that Genesis system looks impressive !! Going to have to look into that, as it is very affordable, and could make my Reef so much better.

I didn't even think about running the PM2 with conductivity probe. I also like the reef-filler pump, but I'm not sure if 5' pull is enough unless I can find a way to keep the tubing from having to run over the door way.

What pumps are you using? I know Kevin recommend the 2200 pumps for me. How large is the tubing you are using? Do you have any problems with keeping your salinity stable?

I do automatic water changes at a rate of about 25 gallons a week. I use a Litermeter 3 with a secondary pump module. One takes out water a little at a time and the other adds water from my salt water storage tank. While I am not familiar with the Genisis system, the litermeter allows you calibrate each pump for the enviornement. The hose length as well as height are variables that will effect the flow rate so calibration is one key element in insuring that you take out and add in the same volume of water or liquid.

You then determine the amount of liquid transfer per pump. After that, the litermeter will handle the water exchanges a little at a time over the course of 24 hours and continue to do so until you stop it. I have been using this system for nearly a year and my tank has never been happier. All I have to do is transfer RODI from my RODI tank to the salt water storage tank and add salt which I do on a weekly or b-weekely basis depending on my mood.

Its made maintaining my system much easier. Its probably one of the best additions I have ever made to my system.

As for why I chose the Litermeter... Besides the fact that I have never heard a bad thing about the product and only good things, Spectrapure has great support and is based in Az which is close enough to California that should I need anything, its only a day away. I also use a Spectrapure RODI and given the support I have received from them, it was a no brainer.

One other nice thing about the litermeter is that you can have a total of 4 pumps attached to the main unit which is nice if you also want to dose.

I'm also interested to see what you end up doing, as I too am thinking about adding one of these systems in the long run.

What's the head height of the litemeter III and also what size tubing do you need? I know the genesis used a larger size than I really want, because hiding it would a pain. I would most likely have put more holes in the walls, which my wife would be :furious: about.

I use the for continuous water changes LM3 too and it works fantastic. It uses the 1/4 rodi tubing, and head height is 16ft and it can draw water from 12ft below.
