Controllable or constant tunzes?

A relatively new poster her with a question about tunzes. I have been researching alot about the tunze stream pumps because I am upgrading to a 90 gallon pretty soon here. Now I was thinking about going with 2 6101 with a multicontroller. I also could go with the 6060's and just have them going nonstop. I would have to just buy 1 6101 first and then later on get the second. I would love the switching current of the 6101 but the start off price is high :eek2: . Any info would be good or advice on what I should put into the 90 water current wise. It will be a tank mostly for sps but with some lps and softies laying around. Thanks!

If you don't plan to go up from a 90 you could also use 2 6055's which would be a bit cheaper. 1 6101 would give good enough flow until you can afford the second pump. I would choose either of these options over the 6060's.

reefer31 -- I just installed two 6055s on my 90g, with a 7095. I think that for what this hobby costs, the added benefit of having two pumps and being able to use the multicontroller functions was worth it.

The 6101 gives nearly 2x the flow of the 6055 at the high end, though, so it may be a better option for an SPS tank. I don't have that kind of need.

But one thing I'd call to your attention about the 7095 multicontroller -- it has an interval feature that switches back and forth between the two pumps at a timed interval, but it doesn't completely shut down one of the pumps. So, if you have A and B, you can set the interval for, say, 2 hours. So, for 2 hours, pump A will push out whatever you set it at (say 100 percent), but while it's doing that, pump B is still operating at 30 percent. After two hours, pump B will become the primary, but pump A will continue to operate at 30 percent. So, if you're worried that you wouldn't have enough turnover with a 6055, you could perhaps use this setting. It would give you about 1500 gph out of one pump, and about 450 out of the other, plus whatever your return pump is pushing.

Two 6101s seems like a lot of flow for a 90g, although I suppose that if one were always off, it wouldn't be the case.

so, 2 9055 nanos would work great for an sps tank? I just dont want to make a mistake and waste money on something that wont do the job I want it to :P. Thanks for the prompt replies as well, i can already tell that tunze has great customer service!!

If it will be a very dense SPS tank, with no other corals, then I would go with 2 6101, but otherwise if you have no plan to go to a bigger tank I would get 2 6055. In the end if you got 2 6055 and had to add a 3rd the price would be about the same as 2 6101.
