Controller Question -

Correct. You have to connect it to your home network (mine is connected wirelessly through an apple airport express) but once it is up, you can view tank parameters, graphs of those parameters over time and manually program and turn devices on and off. All thru a web browser.

Are you referring to the AC3 or the RKE?

Slick!

I know when I talked to them (Neptune) that they may have something in the pipe.

It will be interesting to see what they come out with next.

Being connected to it just makes you that much more obsessed :)

LOL I know. That is the problem. The wife wants me to also set up an IP camera so she can view the tank at work from the equipment side...she will never get anything done!

The AC3 has a very cool iPhone app out that will allow you to turn things on and off as well. I am sincerely hoping that Digital Aquatics will build something like this into the Elite version of myReef. Do you need Aquanotes to control the AC3? Or is Aquanotes just for graphing.

BTW...on the RKE you can monitor and graph the current draw on each PC4 power strip. It doesn't do it for each outlet separately, but it will for each PC4. Cool feature as mentioned above.

You do not need aquanotes to control the ac3. It is programmable w/o a PC (via the buttons on the controller), via Aquanotes, or via the web server.

It seams to me that the AC3 is a better way to go than the AC3 PRO foe me. The only main difference I can see are not enough that would justify the PRO. The only difference I can see is that the PRO has a larger screen, 4 digital inputs rather than 2, and 40 max controlled devices rather than 24. I don't see how I would ever get past 24. BIG plus about the iphone app! That alone is almost the greatest selling point because I can get an alert email on my iphone, then go right into the controls from there, even if a PC isn't available...good stuff.

Personally, I think the only reason you'd need an AC3 Pro is if you have multiple tanks you want to control. Besides, I much prefer the color scheme of the AC3 over the Pro anyway. :-)

I have to admit I am turned off by that color scheme as well.

Mabie the next generation ones will be prettier.

hard to justify the extra cost of the pro for the "average" tank. as for the colors, well it wasn't designed by ralph lauren, but i'm a jeans and t guy myself, so I couldn't care less.

the elite isn't that new, right? i know DA just came out with the RK Lite and the Neptune controllers are OLD by technology standards. i just assumed the aquarium controller industry as a niche area didn't move that quickly.

The Elite is under a year old.

I spoke with Neptune and while not coming right out and saying
it they hinted pretty hard that something is in the works.

you talk to Curt?

the module update architecture is interesting on the RK. i wonder what is on peoples' wishlist for an AC4. I've only had mine for a few months and am still learning something new everyday. only thing i want now is on the DC8 power strip is more space so wall-wart plugs don't get in the way of everything.

.....

I really don't know who I spoke with, I was just doing the final round of research.

here is the comparison between all the current AC models.
There is Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen on the Pro

But now you had to mention there may be an AC4 in the works.....
And I had Just made my mind up about the ACIII Pro
:mixed:

I better clarify that...... I do not know if there is an AC4

All I do know is when I spoke with them something
new in the pipe was hinted at. The rest is speculation.

That being said I would think Neptune will
continue to produce new and updraded products.

I just bought the RKE and read the manuals Today.

I also just sold my Profilux.

To me the RKE is the better unit.

I would take the time to read the manuals on the RKE
+ the Network module one.

I amd more sold on the RKE now that I read the manual,
it is far better that I knew before, and it has lots of features
not even mentioned outside of the manuals.

Like the plug strips have override buttons.

or that the selected alarms can e-mail you
(I believe you can have 60+ alarms).

Take a minute and read the manual I think it may be the new Top dog in controllers.

Quick question about your RKE. It seems that the RKE comes with everything except for the ORP, as the ACIII seems to be rather pricy once you add the PH/TEMP/Outlets, etc to it. Have experienced any problems with your RKE since you have had it?
