Converting Durso into Herbie HELP!

So I currently have a 1 1/4"Durso over flow system on my internal over flow box. I am planing to change it to a Herbie method because of safety, quietness, and the ability to handle more flow once I get a bigger sump/fug with a sicce 5.0 return pump.

Question is do I leave the 1 1/4" pipe as my main flow into my sump and drill for a 3/4" or 1" for the fine tunning line with a gate valve??

90g mix fish and coral
40g breeder fug(building it now)
Sicce 5.0 return( T off into fug section)
SCA 302 skimmer

The herbie does not have a 'fine tuning' line, this is a misapplication of the method, and short circuits the fail safe of the system....

Siphon should be the smaller of two holes, with a valve. DRY emergency (the fail safe) the larger of two holes, with no valve and NO flow in it. If the holes are the same size, use the same size pipe on both, but keep the dry emergency DRY: That is why it is called a DRY emergency...

Ah yes, I mis typed that sorry. The gate valve goes on the siphon. So, if I leave the 1 1/4 as my emergency, that should be ok?? And drill for another 1" siphon line? Correct??

Thank you. Hope I don't crack the glass, haha.

Don't worry this will be the 4th hole I've drilled in this tank. 2 returns and 1 for the Durso so far.
