Converting My Gigantea from MH to LED lighting

Very nice. Way to tease with red haddoni too.

Here's some close-up shots of the tentacles of the giganteas.

The gig on the left. When I got it, it was bleached and the tentacles are short like what we usually see at the lfs.
After a month later, it was getting longer. Now, some of the tentacles are almost 3".

This is the one on the right. Been in the tank for a week now. Tentacles are a lot shorter than the one on the right. The colors are definitely there though.

Thanks! I rarely feed my anemones. When I do feed, I feed raw table shrimps. I have not fed the new gigantea yet. Probably will never feed it. I don't want to mess with fire. If it's doing fine under high light and flow and not bleaching, there's no reason to feed it IMO.

Elos System 70. Total water volume is ~55gallon
4 Elos estripes LED
MSX cone skimmer
CA reactor
Carbon reactor(change once a month)
GFO reactor(change once a month)
MP40Wes running at tidal wave 90% power
SG=1.026-1.027
temp=80F pretty constant. Easier to keep it constant with LED lights
ALK is 9dKH
CA=440ppm
MG=1400ppm

6 months milestone!

The gig been through a growth spurt this past month. I'm not really sure why. It's as big as the one on the right now. The tentacles are as long as ever.

A couple weeks in the tank when I first bought it back in early January

Anemones are an obsession for me... and you have three!? Your tank is sick man!!! I do have one question for you. I see you mixed your nems. Can I keep 2 carpet anemones together without them stinging each other? One is brown and the other is an electric green. Thanks!

I don't see any issue with keeping two carpets of different color together given they're both healthy and that you're running carbon. The issue is when you introduce newly shipped anemone with possible internal infection/virus in the same system as your existing anemone(s). You have to be selective as to what to add. If the anemone you want to add is from an existing system and doing well you still have to be careful and run heavy on carbon and maybe a small water change the next day or two.

After I got my first gigantea to a stable healthy state, I added the red haddoni only because it has been in the lfs for over a year and I think I can provide a better home. There was no issue there. Then I added the other gigantea after I saw a member of my local reef club posted that he's breaking down his tank and the gigantea has been in his tank for about 8months. The pictures he posted looked good so I pick it up. No issue adding it either. Recently, the sunburst/flamethrower BTA craze went crazy and I saw some really nice BTAs at my lfs that has the potentially of being the prized sunburst under right lighting. They were all bubbly and has nice colors to them so I bought two.
Initially, my red haddoni was sensitive to the new addition. It started to shift slightly out of it location. I did a water change and change my carbon and it's staying put now.

So in summary, I don't think you will have a problem with mixing anemones as long as your system is ready for it and that you know what to add and when to add. Carbon, IMO is the key with early water change in the early stage of introducing the new nem.

Awesome! I do run carbon a lot and I change it every couple of weeks. Both anemones were "given" to me by friends that did not know what they were doing. The good thing is that I recognized that their setup was not adequate for the survival of this magnificent animal so I convinced them into giving them to me otherwise they were going to die. I'm happy to say that they are doing fine in separate tanks but after seing your tank... I have to get them together! :) I'm also running MH's and the temp is very consistant. Good flow too... not as good as yours! :)

Thanks for the detail information and again, your tanks is so inspirational!
