Cool Fish on Diver's Den

No, we just have a sane taste.

I also always found the cheap Gramma loreto more attractive than the pricy Gramma melacara...

Love these, just wish the price would come down. Maybe future breeding efforts can get these to be more affordable, probably wishful thinking.

All the ones DD sells are not grade A tygerpyges, if your spending that kind of $$ I want a grade A one

I haven't seen a dejongi on DD, did they list one? I think Dmorty may have just been using it as an example? Now I'm interested haha.

G. dejongi come from Cuba and have so far not been imported to the US - thank that silly embargo for that.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if they found a sustainable population in the Cayman Islands to collect small batches from; I guess not.

Looks like a community college just recently got there hands on it for education purposes.
If they are succesul breeding them I wonder if they won't find there way into hobbyists hands.

Cool!
I hope they succeed in breeding them so that this species becomes available to more at an affordable price. Due to the relatively limited distribution range and rather small numbers wild caught could never fill the demand sustainably.

I had two but both lost their yellow colors after few months. One grade a I think stay a little bit of yellow. In this moment I think not again. Somebody has experience with long time keeping?

Somebody told there are big populations of Dejongi but Dejong makes a contract with the government that contains he is the onliest Exporteur of this fish an he put the price high. Few weeks ago Dejong had several Dejongi in Stock. They sold not so fast. I think to breed them should not be the biggest problem, right?

Very interesting, maybe breeding this trait like the "Rod's" Onyx Percula's will be necessary? It's very exciting to see all of these newly bred species and the possibilities it's opening up is amazing.

How much do they cost at De Jong?

That's pretty much a hundred times the retail price of a Gramma loreto. And that's the wholesale price, so retail would be at least at around 2000!
Thanks, but no thanks. I wait until the price comes down to a reasonable level since I would never just get a single one.
Hopefully the stupid embargo (it hurts the US more than Cuba) will soon be completely lifted so we will see them come to the US as well.
And hopefully one of the commercial breeders will pick them up to meet demand.
