Cool Fish on Diver's Den

I just bought a Flame Angel from DD tonight. They keep their water at 1.025sg and I keep my tanks water the same. As far as acclimation is concerned I only need the float the bag 15-20mins. There's no need to add water since the sg matches, correct? *I'll still test the bags water just in case.

TIA

What type of salt do you use? DD uses reef crystals. Otherwise, yea, just float and drop... But you should still QT of course :D

Also, what a beauty this guy is, will it keep those colors long-term?

Will probably fade some depending on environment and tankmates. Will stay a super male without direct competition from a large femal though! 5.5" on the Conspicuous is a good size, smaller is always better

Both are

Love both of those fish!

I have a FOWLR and use IO salt.

Yes, I'm definitely going to QT just in case.

Thanks!

You may want to put them in a bucket and drip acclimate then. Going from Instant Ocean Reef Crystals to Instant Ocean "Sea Salt" without a drip acclimation was disastrous the one time I tried it with a fish during TTM. I'm assuming there's a big PH difference or something between the two.
Use prime or something in the bucket as ammonia will likely start to build quickly.

If the sg and PH is the same should I still drip?

In case anyone is going to order from LA / DD in the next few days, here's a 15% coupon code they emailed me to that I don't need. It says it ends this Friday so you'll only have a few days to use it. It says sitewide so it's not just for fish either. The code is:

LOYAL02

If PH alk and all that is the same then you should be able to just match temps and be fine... However, just to reiterate, I had issues putting a fish from IO reef crystals to IO sea salt without a drip.

So Derek did you get it?

Yes, but it is going to Matt (caribfan) after talking with him last night. I am picking up a Semilavartus from him this weekend that I have been meaning to get since August! Also have some other fish coming in, and feel he can give the butterfly the proper attention it needs. Plus he is a fellow butterfly freak

Awesome, Matt is a great guy and does love his butterfly fish. Although I'm not so sure that he has an equal obsession with Angelfish :D

I really can't wait to see your tank up and running with fish, I'm sure you are too! It's a great project and if I were in a different place and healthy I'd probably want to do a large tank, but I need to be realistic and not go down that path again. So I'll enjoy the large tanks through others and I do appreciate you all sharing them. My favorite part of having tanks is the acquiring of the inhabitants, to me that's the best part of looking for then finding them, kind of like a treasure hunt.
