I was lucky enough to acquire my gem for far less than that, however pictures never do the justice. As stated above they have a slight blue tint to them that never really gets portrayed.
They truly are a beautiful fish by their patterns more than their colors. But the black with white patterned fits along with a blue hue and whitish yellow tail really is nice.

Gem tang is a status symbol after all. Plus you pay for the importer's losses and insurance when you purchase a gem tang. If I have 2500 to spend I will get some truly rare angelfish.

To give a UK perspective on gems I'm struggling to see how they can be classed as rare (in the trade) anymore , there are at least 3 LFS within 30 or so miles of me that have them in most of the time. One of them had 5 or 6 in at one point. That said, they do still command a hell of a price tag.

They are rare from a you can't get them everywhere and they command a high price rare. Only in the past few years have more shipments started coming out of Mauritius. I have no doubt you see plenty of them in Europe but its a much longer trip to get to America. The only tangs that are nearly as rare as Gems would be Polyzonas and Abberant or "Koi" Zebrasomas. Humaguy has a Gem tang hybrid... Only the second one to ever be caught, thats RARE

They differ slightly for everyone who has ordered since the first of the year. I think mine was 789/2111 if you want to try it.
