I know they aren't rare, but the pearly jawfish is one of my favorite fish. I am really excited about getting one (or a couple) for my new tank.

I really like these guys as well. I might get one soon if they have some more, or if no one buys this one.

I'm pretty sure they are protogynous hermaphrodites (female -> male), though I haven't actually tested it by putting two known females together to see if one changes to male. But juveniles I raised developed to be male when raised alone or female when growing up in the presence of another dominant specimen.

Males have clearly longer pelvic fins and their heads are rounder.

ThRoewer,
Do you have any pictures of male and female Marine Betta? I would love to learn how to tell male from female. My tank is large and full of rock, it is difficult to closely observe my Comet.

If you haven't got it yet wait and order a pair of yellow heads from KP Aquatics when they come available, my wife loves hers

i just went to KP aquatics' website to look up the pearly yellow headed jawfish and i noticed they said that juveniles will then change gender to what is needed in a tank. is that true?

I believe so. If you wanted, there is a bonded pair for sale there.

My Cleaner shrimp is fine with the Tusk. I don't have hermit crabs in my tank so I guess I don't know about this. They do eat small snails, sub 1-2 mm snails. I have Turbo reproduction in my tank, but since adding the Tusk, there was no more small Turbo. The .5 cm and larger continue to grow and reach larger size while there seem to be no more new small Turbo.

How about this guy for a large Reef tank like mine

My current one from LA is on the downturn in QT so if another pops up on DD then you might have to beat me to it.

I can deal with it eating some of my CUC in the tank. Cheap to replace them throughout the year which I typically have to do anyway.

If anyone who ordered recently has a coupon code they are willing to share please PM me. Willing to float you a 5 spot to your paypal account for a valid code.

The reason I don't have one anymore is they are like triggers and parrot fish. They eat a lot and put out a lot of waste. I have have started looking at ways to have more fish with a lower bioload.
