I can't believe the 4" $4,500 Conspic went so fast last night? Nice fish
Lots of people out there with too much money and not a lot of contacts in the fish world I guess.

Isn’t hole in the head and HLLE the same thing?
Na, I don't think so. I think there are a lot of smarter people who manage money better, or work harder, or taught better than many of us. To me I would wager 100 or 500 dollars isn't that big of a deal to them. In any case I am probably off topic. Sorry.
I agree. And assuming the person who bought it has alot of money is a fallacy. Insert $30,000 millionaire.Oh, I have no problem with how much anyone makes. Just seems odd for people to pay extra for a wild caught fish when guaranteed healthy and problem free CB ones are available cheaper.

I agree that the more serious fish collectors have better contacts. In fact, some of those guys as well as groups of similar said guys sometimes have wholesaler access because they pool together and spend big money on these types of exotic fish and the wholesaler is willing to look the other way since they're spending significant amounts of money on livestock collectively. But we may be talking $10,000-$15,000 or beyond in a group buy from these individuals.
Hole in the head is a common freshwater discus (and some other cichlids) disease that causes similar symptoms, but it doesn't cause fin erosion and rarely cause erosion around the lateral line. It is known to be caused by a pathogen in discus (I forgot the name) but also correlates with poor nutrition.
HLLE is head and lateral line erosion disease seen in a number of different marine fish. It causes somewhat similar symptoms, but the underlying cause is cryptic.
When some fish cost 4-5K each, you hit 15K really quick. Most of the fish that those guys want come from sources other than wholesalers. Divers and Breeders are the go to. You also avoid the diseased holding tanks of most wholesalers
Its all about the brand name and supply and demand. The fish, like anything in this world, is only worth as much as someones willing to pay for it.Fish today on DD - Fathead Sunburst Anthias.
