Cooling Fan

Can anyone recommend a 4 inch cooling fan for my 72 bowfront. I need something quiet yet powerful. My 150 metal halide makes my canopy so hot that I can barely touch the top of it. I have a fan blowing air out of the tank but I want to add one blowing in. Part of the reason is because I read that it might help raise my ph level up which is running 7.8-7.9. I started dripping kalk as well but so far it has not raised ph yet.
Any brand names would be helpful or websites.

I remove the fans from copiers before I throw away and have a box full of them and bunch of sizes if you know about wiring and electric work you can come pick a few up for free.

I just order from eBay double and a quad for my build that I'm doing.

My apex chiller and heater keep my temp steady at 78 degrees. All of my other parameters are right on point. 460 calc, alk 9.2, mag 1320
I have a lot of sps frags so I thought it was better to keep ph 8.1-8.3 but I can't get it higher than 8.0 and it goes as low as 7.76
I know everyone says not to chase ph but I guess I'm just being stubborn. Thx for the input . I did try opening a window which definitely helped but its to hot in Miami to do that :)

Thx for the offer josh but if I tried to wire anything I'd be posting pics of a fire like you did lol :)

IMHO The best High RPM + Quiet fans are Noctuas.

To wire them up, source a 12v AC to DC power adapter. You can get'em for $1 @ a goodwill. Make sure it has an output of atleast 1000mA or 1 amp. Next slice it up and wire the 2 fans by taking both red and black connectors and tying them together to the power adapters.

It's a cheap solution that produces tons of air, draws little power, and makes no noise.

I'm pretty sure I have no idea how to do any of that. If you supply the links for everything I need I can ask someone that helps me maintain my tank if they can do it.
The fans on rapid led look easy to connect but I still would need help mounting them.

MLivvy- I wont argue your choice since no DB (noise) ratings are noted on you link. But that needs to be seriously taken into consideration.

How hard is it to put together and mount the 120mm vantec kit in my canopy?
Would I need anything else?

Would be a piece of cake ....they sell a kit that I purchased with the dimmer switch and the adapter ......

As Eddie stated your PH is fine. Do you have any pics of your canopy? Is modifying it an option? Also how cold do you keep your house?

Just trying to give you some alternative options to think about.

House is kept at 73. I was thinking of how I could modify my canopy but its not something I could do myself. I have one fan drawing air out of the canopy. Ph is staying around 7.8 but its been peaking at 8.03 for the past 2 days. I'm dosing very small amounts of 2 part and also dosing small amounts of kalk while the lights are on. I might just leave everything as is for now.

Is it fully enclosed? I run a 250watt mh bulb on a 65g tank and even when I had a canopy, my temps never rose higher than 78. We also keep our house around the same temp. My canopy was open in the back and partially on the top. And I ran no fans.

It's fully enclosed except for a small opening in the back where I have my fan and my wires running out. I have a 150 mh and power compacts. My tanks always had a chiller and I put a 300w heater in when I got my apex so I can keep the temp stable. One of the main reasons I started this thread is that the top of my canopy is so hot I think it's a fire hazard.

Your light fixture, are the vents right up against the top of the canopy? Are your lights attached to your canopy?

I'm not sure where the vents are but if I had to guess I would say they are probably against the top. The lights are attached to the canopy for sure.
