Copper AND Hypo... Copper OR Hypo

I'm currently setting up a hospital tank and plan to treat for ich with cupramine. My question is... should I also lower the salinity for a 2 pronged attack, or is this a "one or the other" situation?

One or the other. Not both. Make sure that if you are using the Hypo that it really is ich and don't use the swing type hydrometer. Hypo won't cure velvet.

If you use Cupramine, which I highly recommend, buy yourself a RedSea copper test kit. I and others (including an online vendor) have had quality problems with the Seachem copper test kits being very unreliable. Don't assume that just because that reference sample they give you turns out ok that the whole test kit is ok. Personally I won't use it anymore.

I'm going with copper since hypo isn't effective against amyloodinium. I'm not sure if it's cryptocaryon or amyloodinium so I want to be damn sure I get it all.

Thanks for the replies... guess I'll leave the salinity alone while using the cupramine.

But the red sea copper test only goes up to .4 mg/l. Cupramine should run at .5 mg/l and over .8 is deadly. Do you just use it to make sure you're using enough copper... at least .4?

ScottyDon't: In around about yes. Seachem recommends 0.5, but I and others have found it affective from 0.2 to 0.4.

Add Cupramine to the tank as described, 1ml/10 gallons. This is 1/2 strength. Check w/the Redsea test kit to see what you get. You should be at about 0.25. If that is ok then add the second 1/2 dose as described. If it is still below 0.4 then I just add a little more and keep it at 0.4.
