Copperband angel

Hi Guys

I bought a copperband angel a week ago and it seems to have marine velvet. I have started treating it with cuprazin on a 10 day course. If it has not cleared do i keep treating it until it does ?
If i put a cleaner wrasse in the tank will this help to rid my problem?
Also when i feed my fish it does not seem to be eating the flake i've also been feeding frozen plankton but am worried it is not getting enough. Is there anything special that it would like ?

Do you mean copperband butterfly? Never heard of Cuprazine, but if it isn't copper then don't it won't do any good. Also, cleaner wrasse doesn't do anything for velvet.

Do a FW dip and then treat with a copper medication. If it is a copperband butterfly then you may have issues with it eating.

Did you mean copperband butterfly? Never have heard of a copperband angel.

And I don't think the wrasse would do much good.

Copperband butterflys will eat mysid shrimp, redblood worms and enriched brine shrimp. Not much if anything else other than aiptasia and they are very finky eaters.

If the cupramine has not worked by now I doubt anything else may but try feeding him properly and he may react more positively to the velvet.

Anything with cupa- in front of it will be, 99% of the time, copper. That's where it's atomic symbol (Cu) comes from.

Yes, I know about Cu. But I had doubts since it stated it treated fungus also and I haven't heard of any medication that combines copper and fungal medication. I know Cupramine does not.

Sorry it is a copperband butterfly. The cuprazine is copper based, and thanks for the feeding advice. I found some frozen red blood worms i had for my freshwater tank will marine fish eat this as well ?

You may have to try live food to get him to eat, but what you have is worth a try. Soaking in crushed garlic may entice him to eat.

Are you testing your copper levels? I couldn't determine the actual contents of the product you are using from the Waterlife website, but most types of copper are unstable in solution and so copper levels need to be tested regularly. Does the product list ingredients? If the copper is precipitating to below effective treatment levels that could explain why the treatment isn't working as copper is quite effective against external protozoal infections.

Yes in my tank even the Tangs eat them. Unfortunately blood worms do not have as high nutritional value as say mysids but it is a good start. Blood worms are similar in shape and color to one of his natural foods which are mini feather dusters and spagety worms, once he starts taking on those it will be easier to switch him to mysids which are close to the pods he also feed on.
