Copperband Butterfly

My moms reef tank has a Aptasia problem that is becomming an issue. A friend of mine has a Copperband Butterfly in his 110 gallon reef. He said he has never had a problem but the LFS guy says it will just destroy all coral and clams. None of the LFS stores here will order Berghia Nudibranchs and I've never had much luck with shipping Nudis. Anyways anyone have experience with Copperband Butterflys? Please let me know A.S.A.P.

Thanks,
Mike

Depends on what you have for "corals". A Copperband Butterfly (CCB) may, and probably will bother, pick, and possibly eat a clam. Some LPS corals may also be a problem, but they are fine with SPS corals. Say goodbye to any tube worms and feather duster you may have also. For the most part, a CCB can be a great addition to your tank, especially if it's been eating in someone else's tank. If you are getting one new, be sure it eats in the store before you purchase, and have some frozen mysis on hand. If it won't eat frozen mysis, get a small clam shell, and re-freeze some mysis in the shell. Place the shell in an area that you have seen the CCB picking at, and it may find the shell and pick the food out of it.

I've been thinking about getting this fish. What about Cloves and Zoos? Do you think the CopperBand might go after them?

Not sure about cloves, but mine did not bother any of the zoos I had at the time.

no problem there, my CBB had been with a clam for over a year, never touched it. Its a hit or miss situation.

Figures!! Sounds like something the LFS would say when they don't know what they are talking about. I have always had excellent experience with CBB for treating aiptaisa. I have had three CBB's and all ate the aip's, but they also ate my tube worms. Good tradeoff in my opinon. I plan to get one here shortly to maintain my tank and watch out for the ones I don't see.
