Coradian Chrysozonus (Golden Girdled Coralfish)

Anyone have any experience with this type of butterfly in a reef?

I've done some research on this type of butterfly and learned that it is reef safe 'with caution'. Mainly grazes on liverock and feeds on sponges.

I have the opportunity to purchase a healthy one from the LFS. Readily eating frozen brine and mysis and occassionally nipping at the sand bed. If I take the plunge, it will be housed in an SPS dominant reef tank. :D

Is every type of coral on the menu for this fish i.e. SPS, LPS, clams, palys, etc etc

Please chime in???

If you are set on a butterfly in your reef Live Aquarias Divers Den has a Zosters Butterfly (Hemitaurichthys Zoster) in stock right now that says it is Reef safe. Decently priced too at $39.99 cool looking butterfly that you dont see everyday. Just a thought.

If it is eating then it is a good chance you might keep it alive.. I kept one but never ate and grazing on the liverocks... They typically ignore most soft corals, I have not tried sps and clams..

Similar to angels, if he is not hungry, then he will not eat "most" corals (xenia and feather dusters are irresistible). My best experience with angels/butterflies in reefs has been to quarantine them for about two months and FATTEN THEM UP. Once I introduce them, I'm heavy handed with the feeding. The downside to this is maintaining water quality. That part is your judgement. Can your tank handle all that extra food? Personally, I love this species, and it would be worth it for me.

I've found extremely little info on first hand experiences with Coradion butterflies. There are a few threads on here... nothing long term. Has anyone kept this genus long term?

My understand of this genus, is that they are micro-crustacean eaters. Pods, Worms, Snails, etc are all fair game. They should be fine with corals.
