Sorry to ask this but will myi coral banded shrimp ''attack'' me if I get my fingers too close to him in my tank. I was trying to move my rock when it ran at me but will it snap at me or something?

will it snap at you?

will it snap at you?

yeah. Does it hurt?
depends

these shrimps are also known as "boxer shrimps".

Suggestion: to get over your fears you should go pick it up GENTLY with your fingers.

Gary--I'm surprised you are such a tender finger(s)

Seriously---this is a good spot to remind people about wearing gloves for everything:
Here is a blog---I came very close to losing my hand and arm(at least that's what the doctors tell me now)

I was gluing a frag to a rock just a couple days ago. To my surprise my cbs approached me and commenced to latch on to my finger. He held on too. I was trying to keep the frag still so it would bond. The stupid thing held on to my finger for a full 10 seconds. He is a VERY LARGE cbs too. Do to blue collar work my whole life, my fingers are badly callosed so it didnt really hurt, I bet it wouldve if he got me in a softer spot.

Mine has its teritory. They told mi there territorial once they find a place they like.
But mine is scared of me.

Urchins can pierce skin. IME CBS's cannot :)

when it came down to it --it was the fact that my skin was pierced not what or who did it.---and the fact that I had not had a tetanus shot for over 25 years.

that should be a requirement for this hobby----keep your tetanus shots up to date:D

Thanks I won't be getting my fingers close to the shrimp ever. But for the territorial thing I think I will agree with that because that shrimp has staked out a rock in my tank and won't let anything get near it. Haha it's quite comical.

bark worse than it's bite

bark worse than it's bite

CBS's are big bluffers.

capn- you've given a hip new meaning to the phrase "getting a piercing" :bum:

Related question (well sort of).
I want to get two CBS but have been advised that they will fight if not a matched (mated?) pair. Most online vendors don't sell pairs. Any suggestions?

that's one of those questions where you want a guaranteed answer but there really isn't one.
same as will emeralds eat bubble algae
can two dwarf angels get along in the same size
ect ect
In this case I would want a pair of them that are pretty equal in size just to favour the odds for them not fighting with each other--but no quarantees;)

obtaining Stenopus hispidus pairs

obtaining Stenopus hispidus pairs

you need to obtain a male and female.
CBS's aren't hermaphrodites like Lysmata spp. shrimps.

You can sex CBS's by their body shape. It's fairly easy and I've done it myself. You'll need to compare lengths of thorax and pincer arms.
