Checked on my tank today to find That I had placed a Montipora capricornis too close to an acro.
Acro: 1 Monti: 0

Crazy … the amount of times I have seen a monti wrapped right around a branch of an acro … and no battle. And then to see this.

Cool shot

I have a mille with super long polyps on a frag rack, and every so often, it gets tipped over and stings the crapola out of anything it touches!

Nice shot mate, my monti's all come off second best against any acro that defends it's growing space.

thats good to see. I have jedi mind trick that is getting very close to some acro's. I am hoping the jedi mind trick doesnt choke out the acro

I wish I knew how those people that that have super dense SPS tanks do it.

Use custom made epoxy blockers & skirts or sheets of thin shale. I will see if I can find some pics. The down side is that it often isn't pretty.

Goes without saying you lose a lot of tips (after they touch) and the occasional full colony!

I believe we have a high density tank, see Pic 01. Correct me if I am wrong.

Pic 01 - The yellow arrows are pieces of shale to prevent corals from touching.
Pic 02 - Shale plate preventing Platygyra sweepers (up to 2" at night) from reaching the Acro & Purple haze.
Pic 03 - Epoxy "paddle" separates 2 close Acros on a frag rack
Pic 04 - Shale plate use to prevent anemone from reaching a clam.

BTW - Pic 01 is an old pic of the tank, may of the LPS & softies are gone. The tank is now 90%+ SPS and has more corals.

Wow Bela, your aquarium is going to burst. You say that NOW it has even more coral than shown in the picture?? That is incredible. :)

Agreed this is a pain for a mature tank. Planning ahead for future growth is crucial. Setting up a frag tank would also help.

I never noticed the little shields everywhere in people's tanks. I just assumed they prune frequently to prevent touching and that's why people constantly have tiny 1" sps frag packs for sale. My tank is young enough to where I have only had two sps collide. An acropora nasuta grew right into a montipora cap. Nothing happened. They just contined to grow unaffected
