Coral / lighting intensity

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
Well I have this green cap with purple rim I got about 3-4 months ago. Well after I had it for about a month it broke in half so I mounted the peice on a rock and put it up high on the rocks. I left the other half where it was a bit lower in the tank maybe 5 inches

Well here is the coral deeper in the water. it has great color

here is the one with more light. they are under a 250W 14K hamilton bulb. I would have thought more light better brighter color?

Does this have to do with differnet colors reacting better to more or less light? if so will all greens like less light?

as you can see the blue is nicer under the more light?

It's much more complicated (and simple if that makes sense) than that. Some corals in general do better under less light and others in general do better under more but IME it's really more of a trial and error thing as pieces of the same coral can do very different things in different tanks. In general caps will do well lower in the water column and take up a lot of room eventually so giving them less "valuable" real estate near the bottom, if you have it, is a good choice.
