Coral Maternity in Portugal

machado...I'm still interested in your "single polyp" fragging. Do you actually just remove one polyp from the parent colony and place it on a floral tube? SPS polyps are VERY small, and you would end up with a frag that is less than 1mm in dia. I have not seen any pics on this thread of frags that small. Do you have any detailed pics of the actual fragging process?

Sorry to quote myself...but I didn't want this to get missed :D

Hi my dear friend JCTewks!

I'll never miss any question, much less pertinent questions as yours. As you can see, i only skip questions to thank comments and words of sympathy, never to respond to other questions. I use to respond to questions sequencialy by order of entrance. By now i'm still responding to questions posted in the last page (pag. 20)and thus, as you can see in my last post, i answered to sditch , next time i'll respond to fatrip, followed by jack.pe and so on, and soon i'll respond to you. Please sorry my answering to you with a significant delay.

Cheers,

I + the new pics also Machado.

When i get down i just look at this thread. :D

I might print a picture out and tape it to the front of my tank.

Almost two months no words. Wonder what hes up to now :) It only took me 3 days to read all this but was well worth it and I must say

ITS AWSOME LOOKing Grats and Thanks

Machado, that is an awesome setup! I'm considering coming to portugal around late sept to early october of 2008, where would you recommend staying and what would you recomend seeing? thanks

Today I took a look at the thread and I'm pleasantly surprised by the attention that it continues to receive. I apologize to all for my tardiness in posting. It is always a struggle to make time available to do things I like such as to keep the tread always updated but substantial ongoing demands on my time impede me. I'll try to be more assidous.

lookin good machado. man i dont know how you found that thorite in portugal...lol...i can't even find it around New york state...keep up the good work. also do you have drains to the sump in each of those 2 tanks that are tied to gether and plug the higher one while the lower one is on line to keep water movment threw to the tank? i am just trying to understand the way it works alittle better. thanks
Hi fatrip, I don't find thorite in Portugal but, because I’m a lucky man, i have a friend who have contacts in Germain and buy it for me.
About water movements I have made some modifications in the system. Actually, both Day-care tanks tied together by the channel, have a common drainage. The other two tanks, maternity and nursery, have independent out flows. Now, the water from all tanks are guided to a single tube (3” diameter), which distributes the water to the skimmers and straight to the beginning of the sump. The scheme will help you better to understand the way it works:

Hi Machado,

...
In terms of UPS have you thought about a backup generator rather than batteries?or is it too impractical in the garage? obviously you would have to rig up exhaust outlets but you would potentially have a lot more autonomy.

Jack

Hi jack.pe, Thanks for your words.
Yes, it would be better for me to use a backup generator but it's a problem because my garage is localized in a residential building and i have neighbors on the floors over me. The backup generators are noisy and working by night would wake up all residents. Because a single UPS doesn't run for long i was obliged to equip the prop with another one, to get more autonomy. Exhaust gases would be another problem for me. I allways try to be a good neighbor...

Machado deSousa, how many tanks such as nurseries you gonna add to the prop? 4 more? Will be the sumps expanded also?
All the best!

About nurseries tanks i intend to go on with only one but i would like to fulfill the stand with Day-care tanks… it was designed to receive 6 x 600g. The sump is dynamical.

Cheers,

It is amazing to see that people all over the world are doing these kinds of things...that is an awesome setup to say the least...keep up the good work.

I Have a Question about the cost of your Sistem.

I Have a Question about the cost of your Sistem.

Good afternoon and greetings from the city of Mexico, there am leido post complete and I am to the slope of avanzes, my question is whichever money does spent or spent at the beginning of the construction of your system? I hope you can help me with this doubt, and very many congratulations estan brilliant the chorales as much as the aquariums, so long.

Atte Eduardo Bado. :akuma:

I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but one question: why did you chose to do multi tiers instead of one single plain in the "day care" tank? Wouldn't corals get more light if they were at the top? Anyway, amazing tanks and corals!

Wow! Lovely updates sincei last looked at this thread!
I know that you said you're not doing this for a profit,But if i was in Portugal I will be bringing my ninja equipment. :strange:

Nice work! Only If I had to funds to do something like this! This seriously beats any of the LFS' near me!
