Coral sweepers

A friend was asking about placement of a new pectina, and here is why I said give it plenty of room.



This is a smaller Pectina I have and anything near it is sure to receive a punishing sting. My Space Invader also has some long sweepers but nothing like this. Some chalices can also let some pretty insane sweepers out at night. Sorry for the poor iPhone camera shots. Came back from the FRAG meeting and shined the flashlight in to snap a quick shot. JP

I had no idea they had sweepers. They look so much like a mix of brain and SPS that I just thought they would be more brain-like. I've not kept one but if I plan on it now I know.

Brain is a loose description, to say the least ... Many species of "common" name brain coral have sweepers more potent than that of Pectinia sp.
