Coral Tank from Canada (1350gal Display Tank)

Bulk Reef Supply is amazing to work with -- excellent shipping to Canada, and they're much more upfront about how they source their Ca, Mg, and alk products than regular aquarium companies.

FWIW, I think it's cheaper overall to use calcium reactors on big tanks than 2 + 1 part solutions, but I'd always have a bucket or two of their products around for quick corrections of water chemistry. I'm also a fan of topping up with kalk (I like how it tends to drive pH up), but I realize it goes into and out of style cyclically, and we seem to be at a low point.

Hey nineball ever come accross the lake? rochester ny is where im from come down pick me up love to c ur tank close up...lol

I was just directed to your thread over the weekend as I heard it had a garage with some sweet cars, a beautiful house, koi and something about a big fishtank too. I'm only to page 16 so far, but it's looking to be a killer thread for me to work through this week when I should be working ;)

Not to worry Sara, unlike 'LOST' this thread hopefully has a point to it. There is a lot going on today in the fish room. Mostly electricians and plumbers.
Welcome to the group..........:)

One point I should have stressed is that it's difficult to do harm to a coral by underdosing elements, while overdosing is a very common cause of coral damage and mortality.

These chemicals intract strongly with each other. Adding too much of one can cause another to fall out of soliution (turn from liquid to solid or at least bind with another chemical). Most of these elements will also impact PH either up or down, so keep an eye on your ph meter to establish if you are adding too much to fast. There is such thing as too much of a good thing in this case.

Think of corals as being similar to our bodies. We utilize calcium and many of the same building blocks to build our skeletons. A deficit will not quickly kill a coral, while a surplus will do harm. You just need to go slow and keep the trace elements and salts at NSW levels. Too much of anything becomes poison. Too little will only retard growth or cause the colours to fade.

In the end, all of the testing equipment in the world won't equall the signals the corals are giving you. Open (feeding) polyps and natural bright colours are your natural meter.

I have been looking for any signs of principles that were sustainable and useful to those entering this domain. This point certainly is an excellent candidate Mr Wilson. Well put!!!

As of lately i have been looking for a stable continues way of supplying all of my trace elements myself and have came to the conclusion that i think this might be the answer for me.
It is by Fauna marin and if you dig alittle there are a lot of nice tanks using it.

This is certainly stuff I am going to return to when I am ready.........Thanks for the reference.

Shawn,
Well put. But how about take it really slow ,

Peter,
your tank does not need to be full right away. Slowly add corals a few at a time to let your biological filtration catch up to the slight increase in bio-load. Remember nothing good ever happens fast. So far, you have taken it nice and slow. don't stop now. great job
Rob

Thanks Rob, noted and agreed.

Peter

Peter. Just one advice.
" Simplicity is the best "

Can't wait to see your hand get wet.

Thanks Chingchai, I agree with your advice. I remember watching your build and thinking exactly the same thing at the same point. In your case it was well worth the wait...........I hope the same is true for mine.

Sara's welcome anytime but I would wait until the tanks wet for sure............

Peter

robbie the robot HA HA! great update peter!! the progress is great. love the marble in there very sharp!

Thank you Jesse, glad you like Robbie. The marble is not just vanity as much as a very effective acoustic barrier. Every noise maker is enclosed in the fish room. There are no machines in the main display tank area. This should be a very interesting experience with just the water flow.

Ohh I see how it is, I ask to see tank and get rejected. Then SHE! comes along and just gets an invite ahahahah

Equipment room excites me more than the tank. Keep posting, the build is getting better and better.

Mr. Wilson.... just write a book already. Or someone take all his posts and stash them in a section called, NEWBIES READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!!!

Awesome work guys
