Cirrhilabrus lubbocki

Mr. Wilson,

Looking forward to book! :lol2: I'll happily pay shipping for me and dahenley!

Since you brought it up: does anyone know how Cirrhilabrus lubbocki got it's nomenclature? It certainly wasn't regionally specific as we're extremely landlocked here! I've been wondering this since I first saw this fish while researching my fish wish list.....

On a more serious note, please understand I meant every word I said about your knowledge and it's impact.

Thank you,
Stacey

Thank you.

Thank you.

Peter,

Thank you for the welcome! I am know reading Chingchai's magnificent build!
Loved the elephant! (and thank God that wasn't my house he was stcking his head in!)

I'll be waiting for my next lesson here....
Stacey

I should have guessed that one!

I should have guessed that one!

Well, that makes perfect sense! I had a TA one time in a field class I was taking that discovered a new field mouse and we had a blast latinizing (nice term!) his name!

As you all know reef tanks are never done. These days I find myself waiting for the last big pieces of the puzzle like the sump that other parts are hinging on.

The line in the sand between installation and maintenance is definitely blurred. The tank is still progressing but nothing too exciting. Peter's video is coming along nicely. I will post some minor update pics at the end of the week.

A friend donated a nice purple tort to Peter's tank as our first SPS coral. So far the polyps are open and the colour is holding. I picked up a super green frog spawn today so we now have one soft coral (cespitularia), one LPS (euphyllia), and one SPS (acropora). The test pilots all look great, so the stocking will commence soon.

Coraline algae is starting to show up on Epo Putty and PVC fittings so it's only a matter of time before it beats out the nuisance algae which we are still battling.

Great to see the progress. Peter it won't be long before you're cursing the coraline algae like the rest of us.

Thanks Oldude, sorry to hear of your challanges but this hobby is a true journey as you have often said. I will hope for a serving of your positive attitude to keep me in the game............so bring on the coraline algae!!!!!!!!

Thanks for dropping by.

Peter

Peter and Mr. Wilson have you had the chance to review the Skimz line of skimmers, Ca reactors and other equipment you had purchased? I am really interested and excited to hear from y'all on this matter as I am looking to upgrade my Protein Skimmer this winter, and to also add a dual reactor to house Carbon, GFO or Bio-Pellets. BTW doesn't Peter's tank employ a RK2 systems skimmer for the DT? I look foward to seeing more aspects of the equipment room in this build. You two are really setting the stage as far a new technology and best practices in the 'sump room' we will call it with the mangroves, plasma lighting, mars bars (oops wilson bars;)) and the frag system. Did I mention to say I'm excited and chomping at the bit to see the sump and fish room all done? ;) JK with you guys I know you must be just as anxious as myself and the rest of the followers of this thread are to see the finished product in the fish room also known as Mr. Wilson's 'man cave' away from home lol.

Steve, If you can believe the trucker community we will have the mangrove units today between 9 and 10am. It is now 10:20am. its now11:00 am and one of the units is a pile of rubble.....more later...

This doesn't sound good....:sad2: I am awaiting the news as to what happened, my guess is a error in transit caused it to break. If so I am very sorry, but I am glad to see that you aren't afraid to post your 'warts' as you said earlier about the downfalls you have encountered, but keeping it positive all the while. I am astounded the way you have dealt and handled with your pitfalls to date, and not even one comment about the bad experiences with vendors and dealers that you have encountered.

Have you ever had occasion to use GARF Grunge or similar? It is supposedly the muck off the bottom of import tanks and is supposed to help kick-start an aquarium with all sorts of different coralines, worms, sponges, etc. Just curious.

Thx,

Dave.M

I had a 30,000 gallon tropical fish wholesale warehouse for eight years and saw a lot of grunge but it all went down the drain.

There are a few companies out there that sell copepod, phytoplankton, and mysid shrimp cultures. We will look into these at some point soon. I think Inland Aquatics does that stuff. I'm not sure. Anyone have any suggestions?

For suggestions Mr. Wilson, you're right inland aquatics does, along with indo pacific sea farm. You could also look into the reef stewarship foundation for tank raised snails and other creatures, another for live cultures would be aquatic indicators.

Sorry to be a pooper, but these are American firms. I know from contacting them directly that Indo Pacific Sea Farms (Hawaii) will not ship to Canada owing to bad experiences with our Customs folks. It's just an added layer of complexity.

i'm sure you know someone who lives close to the boarder on this side. See what you need to get to get it across the boarder and pick it up when it comes in :). That is if you can't find anyone who will ship it to you

Thanks for the tip. I will look into these. I think there was one called "Florida Aqua Farms" or something like that that did rotifer cultures etc.?

There is no problem with importing. I get some things shipped directly to Toronto International Airport, while other orders are cheaper and easier to get through Buffalo International Airport. It's about a 2hr drive from Toronto.
