I am following his thread. That's a "bit" bigger than I want. :)

I will contact ATM and see. I have a feeling it's going to cost muliples of what the 8x4x2 would cost. So I may stick with a penninsula style.

Thanks!

There was someone selling one in the selling forum a while back and it wasn't getting much interest. It was one of the rimless ones that overflow the water over the sides...for some reason the name is excaping me right now....tired. Worked all night and now RC before bed.

Infinity maybe???

only problem is very few people can afford that pond like tank....not monetarily, but the weather...here in south and south east-asia, temp in the summer go to 35C to 40C+...to keep that size of outdoor tank cool for those 2-3 month alone will cost equal to a top class bulit perhaps...it is not viable even in many states of america i guess...

regarding the flashing of that wrasse, that is truly awesome;i hope peter will give us a clear pictures next...
i wonder when we will start to see those rare dwarf angels playing there...

We have a 12,500 kelvin Aqualine Buschke 400 Watt and I like the colour, but it will drown out actinics at that wattage. Shouldn't be a problem at 250W. I'm sure Radiums would look nice. I hear a lot of people using them, but just haven't got around to trying them yet.

When Peter has his open house people are welcome to bring spare bulbs for us to try and coral frags are always welcome :)

i gave away my spare MH bulbs do to making the switch to T5's but i do have an sps frag that i will save for peter

And it makes my tank looks like an ant tank.
Size does matter.
But the way Peter and Mr. Wilson share their experience and enthusiasm is something we've never seen before.

An ant tank? Well, yours is smaller but it is still very impressive by any standards.

JMO, but I think the light on the right side of the tank looks best. The light on the far left looks like it doesn't show the colors as well.

What type of light is it on the far right?

Do you have any updates on the mangrove refugium?

Thanks

The most impressive build on Reef Central by far. ChingChai's discipline, focus and imagination puts his build on another level altogether. It is NOT the size, nor is it the expense. It is a perfect marriage of science and art in the marine aquarium world. The decision to bring the fish room into the display experience was and remains his genius.

From my perspective I am relieved he is such a gentleman to boot because I know I have stolen many of his build principles and blatantly incorporated them into my own ........ yet he still talks to me.

This hobby is a much better place because of him and we are all beneficiaries of his continuing legacy.

Thank you ChingChai from all of us...................

Wery well said Peter...

ChingChai's tank will always remain in top position because of his decision to incorporate the fish room into display experience. The quality of his build is top notch in every aspect from rock formation to hiding plumbing with the help of leather sleeves and beautifully looking equipment cabinets.

Fish and invertebrates selection is another reflection of ChingChai's passion and admiration for this hobby.

All that being said, Peter you have a lot to strive for if your project is to outcompete that of Ching's

I agree with Mangodude, the lighting on the far right of that long side I think looks best. Not sure about most natural, but it's the most appealing to my eyes.

That link is truly an impressive aquarium, one of the best in South Africa, he happens to also be the Aquamedic agent for South Africa ;)

But i do think size is wonderful but it isnt all that makes the aquarium, it is what you do with the aquarium and how successful it is long term in keeping the reef animals thriving as work of art , the attention to detail in this thread and Chingchai's build is outstanding

Mr. Wilson will have to give you the finer points but the right hand unit is a 6ft 4X250 MH 14K bulbs. There are also twin t5's running on either side of the MH's.

The mangrove hydroponic units are supposedly here in toronto as are the two sumps (we hope) so I'm hoping we are within a week of taking picures of the operational system for you......

For once in this whole thread I am absolutely speachless after seeing the updated pics. I will have to rethink what I am going to type for tomorrow I am so speechless. Just aboslutely mind blowing the massive amount of time effort and money that went into your tank. Although if it were mine I'd give all the credit to Mr. Wilson and the two pairs of brothers and just try not to think about the bank statement lol!
