Mr. Wilson, Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share that. I know generocity is common place here but not everywhere!! I asked Ching this as well and his numbers are slightly higher but in the same ball park.

Before I turned on my ozone generator my numbers were around 80 and now in the low 200-240 range. Do you think I should aim to push this number higher??? What would be too high of an orp and what might be holding my numbers down ???

Ahhhh my pet subject ;)

Providing you trust the accuracy of your probe and have allowed enough time for it to settle in (about 14 days) aim for 400mV, you can go as high as 420-430mV but I have never seen any benefits.

Avoid ozone generated readings over 450mV, if you probe reads over this and the ozone is off then fine but make sure the off level is set to around 400mV.

With a larger tank (about 500 gal) , I know that nothing bad or good for that matter happens fast but still need to keep the same close eye on things. My ORP reading has been consistantly running in the low 200's for nearly a month. I will boost it up a bit but may hit up a pal to borrow a second probe to double check that number from time to time
thanks for the knowledge!!!

I can't wait to see this tank fill up with amazing coral.

Chingchai use to say this to me

You buy only First Class coral for your tank.

I hope you get all the rare and most beautifull coral for this fabulus set up.

I am a firm believer there is no such thing a a "dip test" for ORP especially more so in salt water. Depending on the quality of the probe it can take anything from 2 days to 2 weeks for the ions to attach themselves to the probe to read the ORP value correctly.

My point here is, if reading ORP do it as a monitored measurement over time, and not with a hand held dip tester.

Avoid cheap probes (often found on fleebay), the platinum can be thin or not pure and the ORP readings can vary hugely from probe to probe.

It is common to see a difference in readings from monitor to monitor anything up to 50 points, as Shawn stated, ORP really is not an exact science. It should also be seen as a reference point rather than a specific reading, this is why suggest an Ozone controlled reading not above 400mV.

Is ORP any good for non Ozone injected systems? Yes once the probe has settled keep note of this reading, expect the reading to rise also, this does not always mean the water quality is getting better, what is more important is looking out for a drop in a reading, this indicates a potential water quality issue (overfeeding, dirty filter sock, poor skimming, or someone just put their hands in your sump ;)

Calibrate once a month some probes have a habit of over reading if left.

Calibration - use the fluid the manufacturer recommends, 400mV works with Pinpoint and many others but does not with ProfiLux and others just as an example. Profi uses 220mV as it is the expected mid point.

Thanks so much for sharing that. I did not realize that I should recal every month. I figured a couple of times of year. I will be getting cal fluid on Monday after the holidays

I do use the probe continuously as the ozone controller proble its from pin point. I know some guys are not fans but it was easy to get and in budget

Happy New Year Peter and the gang!!!! Just caught up after being away for a few months and quite a transformation has taken place....Can't wait to see what happens in the 2011!

Great looking tank, something for almost anyone to aspire to. Two quick questions. First, where did you get the silicone hose used as leads on your closed loop pipes? Second, are they just connected using barb fittings? They look to be pretty soft silicone that may cut down alot of plumbing vibration I have.

Happy New Year to everyone in this community

It is now 8:30 pm after a very very loooong day but he did it. The sump is in and for the moment it has not added anything unexpected to the system. In fact the fish room is eerily quiet. I cannot say enough positive things about Mr. Wilson. In my opinion he defines best practice when it comes to work ethic. No matter how tired, no matter what day it is, Mr. Wilson has only one expectation....do it right. I thank you Mr. Wilson from one professional to another.

To everyone else who has hung in through this long year I thank you. Many of you have materially impacted this build and for the better. I have pictures of todays process which if you can forgive me I will post tomorrow because if I don't join Judy and Molly soon I will not be able to post anything any time soon.

Happy New year everyone and thank you for a wonderful year!!!!

Peter
