has anyone used these skimmers before and how well do the work as a backpack skimmer. I'm thinking of putting the 65 model on my 30, but i don't have a sump. does it throw out alot ofk micro bubbles, and if so how did you correct this problem?
There are mods you can do to take care of the micro bubbles. I dont like the difuser that it comes with i built one out of pvc and a mag sponge and it takes up less room then the one it comes with.
There is alot of threads on here about it.
just keep up on maitence on it (disasemble and clean the pump and body regularly, keep salt out of the air line). you can fishing line mod the impeller for better performance.
they get a bad rap for overflowing and are generally way overrated. keep up clean and modded and they work good. if your buying it new id recomend to buy a better skimmer from the get go.
There are plenty of better HOB skimmers. CSS are quiet dated in terms of technology. They are prone to flooding especially if you do not have a constant water level due to a faulty design. I haven't used a skimmer for that size tank so others will need to chime in but I wouldn't waste my money on a CSS. I have a 65 and a 220 laying around some were in a junk pile.
