Coraline algae

Ok so I had my hex up and running for about 9 months and added a few pieces of live rock to seed the rock I got from Marco's (100lbs) but I can't seem to get Coraline to grow just dies off. 2 weeks ago I changed from the 110gal hex to a standard 90gal. But in the sump I have a rock that has Coraline that did not die off.

Salinity 1.026
Ph 8.0-8.1
Calcium 460
Phos .05
Alk 9
Nit 0
Nat 0

Just at a loss light is a 48in reef breeders led now. Was a24in reef breeders on the hex. Max % 35 blue 30 white. Should I be adding something like dosing.

Ever since my switch to LED coraline growth has been very slow to say the least. You did not mention your mag level but it must be close with your cal and alk to be steady where they are but maybe give that level a check and bump it up some if needed. Other than that just be patient.

Not familiar with your light but 35% and 30% does seem to be too low to me so bumping up your lights SLOWLY will probably help as well.

Be happy...
I employ an urchin to keep my tank free of that stuff.. When I hear him munching/grinding it makes me smile..
But I'm not a fan of purple.. Or unicorns... Or Care Bears :p

Coralline is quite finicky IMO.. Its got a happy place with the right amount of light and alkalinity.. Outside of that it tends to stay "controlled/localized"

You may also want to try and obtain a variety of coralline species. I noticed that colors/types prefer different types of light. Maybe you have one with high light requirements? I have stuff that refuses to grow in direct LED light, but is quite happy growing in indirect light or under rocks.

Sorry mag is 1250. And thanks for the replies!

lmao not am I but do like color in the tank white and now brown looks shitty lmao.

Only reason so low is it's bright as t5 right now lol and at 45% white and 50% blue on my hex with a 24 in reef breeders led it was 30in deep and Coraline would bleach out in a day. Read a guy had the same light and same tank and never went over 30% both can had nems lps zoa all with great success. And if he went higher nothing would open.

I had a lot of coraline on my live rock when I started my tank, but it was not growing. About 4 mo. tank maturity I added this stuff called "purpleUp" as suggested by my lfs and after two doses my tank exploded with coraline and started growing uncontrollably. Haven't needed to dose it since.

I would bring your mag up as it is a bit low. I typically keep mine at 1350 which is slightly above the NSW value of 1280 if memory serves right. Seems like a lot of people maintain mag at even higher levels.

Sometimes it's hard to get to grow under certain lights. I couldn't get it to grow under my T5's until I switched to Kalk from 2 part. Then once I switched to LED's it took off and now scrubbing glass a lot. Be careful what you wish for
