Coralline Algae on snails...

I think by the time the snails get to the stores, they are out of water for many days, and then the coraline dies off.

How long can snails stay out of water. I think if they can stay out for over a week and if they keep them like that. Id go with being out of water for so long.

I have a large turbo snail that I move from tank to tank because he runs out of algae. I put him in a holding tank that I have also been dumping Asteria stars into. These stars have cleaned his shell completely in less than a week, he was always heavily encrusted with coralline. He's ready to move to another tank, I expect the coralline will grow back.

Snails are often shipped dry with a piece of wet newspaper to keep them moist. At most, I'd guess a couple days is the most they could survive out of water.

Live rock sits out baking in the sun for awhile and then dry for days and days when it's shipped stateside. Weeks maybe. Ask Gresham. And don't forget the gnarly wateer conditions once it's returned to water. Coralline on it still survives. I don't think it's dying off from a couple days out of water.
