After a few hours of lights on hte corals close up tight. Params are good, nothing dead in tank. Unsure what to do. Lighting is T5s-- 3 atinics, 1 purple, 1 blue, and 1 12,000w daylight. Is this to much or not enough?

May I ask what kind of corals, and how long are they in your tank?
How long is the tank running, how are the water parameters.....

The more info you give us, the faster and the better the answer will be......

Hope this helps

Tank has been up 4 months, params are in sig line and current, Softies, zoas, gsp, and some polyps and quite a few mushrooms. They have been in the tank about 2 months, however this behavior started about a week ago. No changes to the tank when it occurred.

Today I am going to try cutting back the time the lights run a few hours to see what happens.

What do you have for fish or inverts? Salinity? Also have you changed the direction of your powerheads? I had the same problem. Turned out to be a rogue emerald crab and several large hermits. Anything that gets to close or bumps them will make them close up like snails or crabs. Also out takes time to adjust if you change flow rates. Your lights should be more than enough depending on placement in the tank for softies. I have a Kenya tree that is living in my nano under one crappy t8 bulb so they aren't that dependent on lights.

Few damsels, a clown one dragon goby and a dottyback. few small hermits ( have never seen them on any corals. A sally lightfoot that stays in one area all the time unless its moving after lights out. Have not seen anything bothering the corals in the tank. I did bump a power head about 2 weeks ago. The salinty is 1.024 and all other params are good. Light fixture is 48 inches long tank demensions are 48x24x30.

Not with a multi meter but I had my hands in the tank today. Didnt feel any stray voltage. I will check for it tomorrow, my meter is at work.

They open and after a few hours they close up lights come on at 10:00AM corals open then by 4:00 they start closing randomly some stay open some dont. Then the next day ones that were open close up and vise versa. Its strange not really a pattern.Just random unhappiness. :(

Do your corals when they open, stretch for the light?
I could be wrong, but to each his own.......... I run a T5 (39W) set up also and i have great results with it. 8 X 12,000K & 4 X 03 violet. My tank is 72L X 24W X 30H and i get good growth with my acans and blasto's on the sand bed. Even a frogspawn. I hink you might have to do some research.............. maybe someone else can chime in?
